Posting this for now before I forget.
The event consists of a set number of rounds, we'll say 6. At the start of a round, everyone is given a random number related to the number of players in the event. If there are 10 players, there will be 10 numbers from 1-10. No numbers are repeated. During the round, everyone is able to challenge up to one to two people (host's choice). Challenges may not be refused and you may not play against someone twice in one round. You do not have to challenge anyone. The winner of the battle gets to see what number the other person has and may trade numbers if they wish. At the end of the round everyone's number is revealed and a new round starts. After all the rounds are over, each player's numbers from each round are totaled and the player with the highest score is the winner.
Pretty simple.
Alternatively, the person with the highest and the person with the lowest scores could play against each other in a final match to determine the winner. That way people can fight for either the highest or lowest score throughout the event. Perhaps even different deckbuilding rules in the finals for the highest and lowest?
