and even genetic reasons for being gay
This is speculation. As far as I know we have not yet found a gay gene.

Not sure about humans but we've isolated it in mice.

You would be correct. Actually, instances such as this: http://www.collegenet.com/elect/app/app?service=external/Forum&sp=29667 (which seem to be quite common if you google the right words) seem to exclude such a possibility.

Very interesting article, but it's a bit to small and there's no data, etc. It seems possible that they could have just removed all desire to reproduce at all from the mice, and that the mice happened to be interested in females for play or socialization. Unfortunately, the article does not say if the female mice started humping other famels, so I don't know.

That is also very interesting. It does seem unlikely (and even impossible) that there is a gay gene if there are two twins with the same genes and only one is gay (while the other has had a opposite sex partner for four years).

Genetics and social behaviors are rarely just 1 gene. However the twin study does show that Homosexuality is not solely genetic.

you lot are missing out some of what i said. i said it could be one or the other. one of those twins could have learned to be gay. other people however could be born gay. (undeniably it is possible if some of the genes that enhance hormones were corrupted through the occasional but completely normal mutation).

I think he's saying that one of the twins mutated into a gay. *snickers* Sorry, I'm not saying it's reasonable or unreasonable, but it made me laugh.

Also Korugar, just so you know, quotes would be helpful there because if someone had their settings so that the most recent posts were at the beginning then your arrow would be pointing at nothing (or maybe the original question, I don't have mine set for most recent first so I don't know).

I think his point was that it can be a combination of genetics and environment.

That said, it's not really the issue anyway. The issue is that there isn't really a good reason to be against homosexuals.

The only thing wrong with being gay is that some people find it squicky.  Also, some people who may or may not be members of the first group have been told that it's evil, and they believe everything they're told by that particular source -- even though that  same specific source also has some other things to say about sex that absolutely everyone ignores.

Other than that, homosexuality is a perfectly natural occurrence in that it occurs in scads of different animals (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_animals_displaying_homosexual_behavior) as well as humans.

Gay marriage, on the other hand, is a much more legitimate question.
