The end is nigh: right wing majority in Canada!!! https://elementscommunity.org/forum/index.php?topic=25538.msg325743#msg325743
« on: May 03, 2011, 12:48:40 pm »
Our situation in Canada is now more grievous than it has ever been. Last night, A right-wing party has taken the majority in Canada and we are going to suffer for it.
As i always believed, right-wing parties always lead into a dead-end for it's country. It all began as far as 2006 when Stephen Harper, current prime minister of Canada, was elected into power in minority (less than 155 seats in the assembly). Since that time, it had stayed this way... but not any more. With 166 seats in the parliament (thats how it's spelled, grammar nazis), and most seats in the congress, we are doomed to our own "canadian George W. Bush". His plan? increase the bituminous extraction speed (more polution), buy more military planes (lolwut? do we really need those?) and to make sure that the elderly get more money... in the stead of the young. i'll say this honnestly: Canada. Is. Fucked.

Kyoto had taken the way to the trash bin, now it's going to the landfill.
Canada's peacekeeper status is now a "laugh-at-that" thing of the past.
This same Stephen Harper is the guy that litterally deprived us of a seat in the permanent U.N. security council.

Canada has taken 1 step forward to take about 20 steps backwards. Canada is litterally the world's minister of sillywalking (Monty python refference)

Then end is nigh...

(thats how it's spelled, grammar nazis)
Plenty of other misspelled words and grammatical errors in your post, but that's not the topic at hand.

On-topic:

A Conservative majority government? Sadness. I think Harper is still in a state of political orgasm right now. As is Elizabeth May ("OMG I can has seat!").

Meanwhile, Ignatieff and Duceppe have both ragequit their positions as party leaders. Smooth move, there -- way to abandon your team when it's in dire straits.

that's true, i was fond of Gilles Duceppe. he was a great man, stay trued to his convictions throughout all of his career. But with him goes the party...

Funny thing, 93% of Saskatchewanian voters voted for Harper. As if, even the Conservatives believe there's a mistake. I mean, almost everyone I knew voted for Liberals. (Though 54% voters are Conservative supporters)

I'm thinking of searching for the lost city of Atlantis and moving there for the next four years.  I don't care if it means holding my breathe underwater the entire time either lol.

On a side note - with all the fraudulent calls directing voters to other polling stations both the day before and the day of the vote, why did they still proceed rather than rescheduling or adding another voting date for those affected?

Would anyone be willing to answer some questions about Canadian politics for an American just tuning in?

- Are the New Democrats significantly different from the Liberals?

- Is anyone mad or surprised that the Bloc Quebecois fared as badly as they did?

- Has Stephen Harper given any reason for buying more fighter jets? Does he want to start his own pet wars?

i believe montreal should become an independent country, BUT they should also assist canada in building things that are in montreal that they are pretty much taking from canada.

There are some slight differences (NDP is a tad more center-left/left-wing depending on who you ask, while Liberals are center-ish/center-right), but the main difference is that NDP isn't failing.

Maybe in Quebec, yes. For the most part, the rest of Canada doesn't really care about the separatist party -- especially since the Bloc only has candidates in Quebec.

Not that I know of.

For some reason he thinks we need them to "protect the interests in the Canadian North".  Personally, I think it's a case that he's hit mid-life crisis at a time when he can spend other people's money.  Rumour going around a couple unnamed bases is that they are being bought without motors, so wouldn't even be operational at purchase.

I think the mega-prison and citizen law force sections of the platform bother me more than the fighter jets. :S  We don't have enough people in prison to warrant mega-prisons, and our crime rate (national) has fallen.  The only reason I can see to build mega-prisons in that scenario is to earn national income importing prisoners from other countries.  Not cool, if that ends up being the plan.
