If you take out the first sentence, it still works. If you insist, though...
Quote
"No man is an island, entire of itself; every man is a piece of the continent, a part of the main. If a clod be washed away by the sea, Europe is the less, as well as if a promontory were, as well as if a manor of thy friend's or of thine own were: any man's death diminishes me, because I am involved in mankind, and therefore never send to know for whom the bell tolls; it tolls for thee."
And the article I linked to is still good.

Yes, I am only glad in the same sense as I would be at the execution of any other mass murderer: glad that he can do no more harm.  Osama was still a human life, and from his perspective, his death would be a horrible thing.  (Except for the whole virgins thing, I guess...)
It's kinda a common misconception on the virgins thing. There's nothing in Islam that says anything about it directly. And most terrorists die for being 'martyrs' and going to heaven.

I feel joy over Osama Bin Ladens death because it means he can no longer harm others. He who takes life, or someones rights unjustly should understand that they don't deserve life or rights themself. Also I feel joy that justice has been done and showed that "no you can not get away with it, you will be hunted down like a dog." Not giving in to terrorist demands is a start, but hunting them down will show them it is not even worth a shot.

I agree with you, but you're looking at only one side. Many civillians have been killed these last 10 years by the US in Pakistan through drones. There was a bomb almost everyday by the US in Pakistan. If you think that way, then US is also guilty for killing almost 2300 civillians in Pakistan. Innocent people.

But we didn't "try" to kill innocent people, we were trying to kill those that wanted to kill us.

US sent drones. Drones do collateral damage. Bound to kill civillians. Even the officials said, for every militant killed, 10 civillians are killed, but we still gonna do it.

Wardead is right. I understand what you mean about justice being served, and I agreed with that earlier in the thread. Killing him doesn't really make the world a safer place, though. It's like when one mob boss kills a lesser mob boss who opposes him. That's what this was.

It's kinda a common misconception on the virgins thing. There's nothing in Islam that says anything about it directly. And most terrorists die for being 'martyrs' and going to heaven.

The whole virgins thing is a remnant of the Assassins and the Man on the Mountain.  He took soldiers, drugged them, and then gave them hashish and blowjobs from "virgins" and told them that they had been given a preview of heaven.  Then, he took it all away and told them they'd get it back if they killed off so-and-so over in Europe.  Worked very very well, so I've been told. :)

It's interesting and relevant primarily in that Bin Laden explicitly modeled his tactics after the Man on the Mountain.
If something happens and you think it deserves my attention, feel free to PM me. Other than that, I'm probably here if you want to shoot the breeze.

Wrong dead guy. Michael Jackson preformed Thriller.
