I think it's a great victory. If leaders of terrorist organizations are not followed to the ends of the earth until they meet their demise, then that sends a message out to the world that it's okay to be a terrorist, because you'll get away with it. Bin Laden was finally made an example to the rest of the terrorist world.

But the terrorists in question were already willing to die for their cause, wasn't that one of the most terrifying things about them?

They're willing to die to advance an evil cause. Our job is to allow them to succeed in the former while hopefully preventing the latter.

The real question is, what are we doing to fight against evil, and is it working?

I just saw video of people celebrating with flags outside the White House. I'm disgusted. If we saw anyone from the Middle East celebrating like this on TV we would call them animals. We would be afraid of their unbridled hatred for the US. But here we are. We can hate him, say we are glad he is dead, but stop making a spectacle. We did what we had to do. It should make us sad we ever had to do it.

Maybe, but we don't have an unbridled hatred for the middle east. We are celebrating the death of a murderer and a madman. In fact for many people, it's not so much that we are celebrating his death as a celebration of a victory (however big or small it may actually be) in our war on terrorism. I don't think it's a fair comparison.

Considering how little effort went in to understanding why the terrorists though we were their enemy prior to 9/11, I do not think the comparison based on miscommunication/perception is unfair. We might know that we do not celebrate his death and rather are only celebrating the victory but that does not mean that we communicate that.

If Bush was killed in the terrorist action a few years back, many middle eastern people would have seen that as the end of the invasion of the US. The opposing leader defeated. Didn't say Obama, he is ending this conflict, not starting. Without going into politics, it's all about point of view. When you're invaded from outside, you'd be happy to celebrate the death, victory or not. And then the US would say all those terrorists. I know the similarity is not the same, Bin Laden deserved (?) to die, Bush was a legitimate leader, but on what basis do you claim celebrating someone's death to be a victory, when nothing, but one person died. To see this leading to victory we will have to wait. It might be another step forward, but celebrating others killed is just sad...

Happy this man is dead.
Also DNA test confirmed, they waited a week after killing him for the results so the could declare it.
Going after him at all cost really was the right call, hey terrorist you can run but not forever, and if you hide you will die like a dog. In the end Bin Laden died without personaly taking any enemies with him, what a failure in the end eh?
Now lets try and kill whom ever tried to replace him to send a message to them that if you try to lead the terrorist you will be killed in short order. It would be awesome if we could do this only a few weeks after they take power, thier spirits would be utterly crushed.
Some say this is a shallow victory, but to those I say "Your wrong". This victory will not end the war or anything like that and no oen is claiming it will. Those that claim killing Osama Bin Laden is nothign big really needs to understand the world. When was the last time that America got together and cheered the way it has done recently?
There are many types of victories that one can get, this one is a mixture of a few, so why not party about it?
Also we cheer victory AND the death of an evil man. Those that do not understand this very simple idea most likely never will, so I don't care about what they think.

Also to those that say cheering the death of a man like Osama is wrong/sad, in my opinion is wrong. Say that cheering his death is sad to those that lived through 9/11 or their loved one.

This discussion reminds me somewhat of the "free speech vs terrorist response" arguments. While it might be wiser to show a more reserved demeanor, imo a defeat for evil is worth celebrating, and should we really limit our actions based on the responses of unreasonable people? It feels like a slippery slope.
