It's been a bad week for the GOP https://elementscommunity.org/forum/index.php?topic=26071.msg331538#msg331538

Several commonplace GOP lies exposed this week.

HuffPo's summary. (http://www.huffingtonpost.com/mitchell-bard/its-been-a-bad-week-for-g_b_859023.html)

A good summary of exactly how whacked-out the Faux Newz drones really are -- and (unfortunately in my view) how centrist our pet Combo Breaker really is.

A position's weakness can be shown by its attack on the weaker arguments of its opponents.

Yes, that's a big lie. Far from being "soft" on terrorism, Obama is just as guilty as Bush for escalating the global War on Terror. It's a shame the lie wasn't true.

Also some of them reminded me of the saying:

Ive come to the conclusion, from this article, that neither side truely understands each other, and they are ok with that as long as there are people that dont know what they are talking about that fall into the necessary category. If you believe the things this article claims republicans, or even the majority of conservatives mean, then you are just as brainwashed as you claim the far right to be.

I believe Gingrich summed it up nicely during the debate when he said that people want yes or no answers to the extreme questions, when those extreme questions matter less than 1% of the time. This shows extremes (as do the majority of your posts) and as long as extremes are shown, the informant, no matter how righteous the intentions, will lose credibility.

The "lie" about obama wanting to raise taxes isnt even a lie.

"2. President Obama wants to raise your taxes. These attacks were works of pure fiction, given that Obama campaigned that he wouldn't raise taxes on anyone making more than $250,000 per year,  and would cut taxes on most families below that range."

The right that are at least informed, dont expect anything other than this. To poke fun  at the bonus lie, if he was a socialist, this is exactly what would be expected, as it is the best way to spread the wealth.

Dont get me wrong here, all the data shown in the article is correct, however, the "lies" are either misunderstandings,  or extremist positions, and the responses to them, although mostly accurate, show social engineering of their own.

This is a very accurate description of the political commentary in recent years. Although I am not sure how many on either side conceive that they do not understand the other side.

I think that, by design, few understand what goes on in Washington. The underlying rule seems to be that elected officials control public opinion rather than the other way around -- the way it's supposed to be. This is commonly referred to by the phrase "wag the dog." The establishment media serves as the mouthpiece of the powerful and most people mistake propaganda (http://www.google.com/search?client=ubuntu&channel=fs&q=pentagon+pundit+scandal&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8) for actual news. Who here has even heard of the Pentagon pundit scandal? Kind of a big deal if you think about it even for a second.

I also want to comment that a lot of objective facts are often not reported on properly in the name of "objectivity." What being "objective" has come to mean in our media is giving equal credence to each side, regardless of how patently false one side may be. I'm disgusted by both political parties; please don't interpret this as a jab at Republicans.

Which brings me to another point: no matter how deeply politicians they betray their stated convictions, there are people in their own party lining up to defend them. This kind of rank tribalism is one of the greatest problems our electorate faces today. When Obama breaks his word on civil liberties, Democrats need to stand up to him and even withdraw their support if necessary. We claimed to be outraged when Bush perpetrated human rights abuses and unjust wars, but when Obama does it we try to make excuses. Similarly, people on the right shouldn't complain about big government  only when we have a Democratic president -- W made a surplus into a deficit, expanded the national security state dramatically (eg: Patriot Act), and involved us in multiple expensive foreign wars, but most Republicans (with a few notable exceptions) swallowed their tongues.
