Senate Bill S.978 (NOT to confused w/ Bill S.987 O_o) https://elementscommunity.org/forum/index.php?topic=28260.msg360920#msg360920

If you don't know what this is, it forbids streaming of copyrighted content. This means that there will be no Covers of Songs uploaded, "Let's Play" games, Music in the background of homemade videos, fan-made music videos, etc.

What do you think of this bill?

Honestly, I think the bill is to premature too be passed. They need to think about all aspects of this bill, the people that are affected, etc. I mean, some companies would RATHER have people upload Let's Plays to endorse their games and such.
I mean, the amount of people that do these types of things are astounding. Just ban piracy.

....Wat.

I made a school video using copyrighted music this year. Does this mean I have to flee to a non extraditing country? :o
You're just as selfish as I am. You're just not as good at it yet.

Bloomberg (http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2011-06-16/illegal-video-streaming-elevated-to-felony-under-senate-measure.html):
Quote
The bill, S. 978, would make illegal video streaming for commercial purposes a felony punishable by as much as five years in prison if it involves 10 or more instances of streaming copyrighted works over a 180-day period. The retail value of the video must exceed $2,500, or the licenses to the material must be worth more than $5,000.
As I read it, what is illegal isn't changing. It's just setting the details for punishment for what is already illegal and making it a felony instead of a misdemeanor.

That said, copyright is an outdated idea that has outlived its usefulness. (See Chapter 4 of The Conservative Nanny State. (http://www.conservativenannystate.org/cns.html#5))
