Well, the truth is that all these measures the EU has taken had quite the opposite effect. They are supposed to bring prosperity to Greece and to other European countries, however our economy has to be in such a disastrous position since 1950-1960. I've seen companies to close or to move away, unemployment is rising along with the various taxes and loans, I've seen people searching into piles of garbage for food (something I've never seen before) and the amounts of criminal activity also rose up tremendously.
Economists say that we shouldn't have entered EU in the first place, because the economic statistics we presented to Europe were fake and they are probably right. However, it were the politicians who lied to EU and they also lied to the people of Greece. Moreover, well-known politicians who have stolen the public wealth have yet to be punished by justice and they continue to become richer and richer even today, while the poor people are forced to pay for the extra measures due to Greece's dept.
Because of all the above, people have abandoned the two major right-winged and central political parties, PASOK (ΠΑΣΟΚ) and New Democracy (Νέα Δημοκρατία), and voted for a left-winged party called Syriza (ΣΥΡΙΖΑ). Other parties that were against the unfair measures were also highly voted from the people. Unfortunately, there were also Greeks who decided to show their wrath by supporting a neo-Nazist political party, known as Crisi Avgi (Χρυσή Αυγή), making it to reach a percentage of 7%, while in the previous elections it was only 1%.
I believe that the same goes on France. People try to show their anger towards EU's elite and they try to send their message. That's why they abandoned Sarkozy and voted for Hollande, however a French-member of the forum may be able to tell us in more detail about France...
