Small side note to create better cross party understanding.
The majority of Republicans do not care what color his skin is. (Though unfortunately some Republicans and Democrats do care.)
While most Republicans dislike socialism they disagree about why it is bad. This shows a divide between the big(Karl Rove) and small(Ron Paul) government factions.

Herman Cain needs Rick Perry's Crisis control.Rick Perry seems great at handling gaffs, meanwhile, cain took forever to start looking at least a little good.

Maybe Herman Cain screwed up the Libya question as a way to withdraw from the race without appearing to be running away from sexual harassment accusations. I can understand him freezing up during the interview, but later saying that the Taliban is part of Libya's new government seems very strange. He should have been prepped thoroughly by his advisors by then. Any half-competent advisor would put a script in Cain's hand, have him rehearse it 20 times, and tell him not to ad lib on the subject.

To answer questions from the first page, I'll probably vote for Obama, but not because I think he is particularly good. I'd vote for him to take away a vote from any republican candidate because I can't find any redeeming traits in any of them. However, I'm far enough left that Obama looks extreme right by comparison. If there were a legit socialist candidate I'd vote for him/her.

No. Johnson is an unperson in the nomination process. Most polls don't mention his name in the list. He is excluded from debates. Same with Buddy Roemer, who is also a former governor, and Fred Karger (former Republican consultant).

The Republican base has been switching between various anyone-but-Romney candidates, but time is running out. The Iowa primary is on January 3. Cain's star seems to have burned out; I can't imagine people overlooking the rate at which new scandals and gaffes come up. Bachmann and Perry have already had their time in the spotlight and were then passed over. Ron Paul is a poor fit on many issues, as is Huntsman. Santorum has been in the last tier in polls throughout the campaign and can't seem to get people excited. So Gingrich, as flawed a candidate as he is, may be the only plausible right-wing alternative to Romney.

So someone who is a notorious flip-flopper vs someone who can't keep his issues straight? Why do republicans bother sticking with the party? There are other right wing alternatives; Constitution Party and Modern Whig come to mind and they're at least consistent.
