I'm... probably really slow when it comes to these topics.

If I get this correctly (which I probably won't  :(), does this mean that internet restrictions are increasing in order to assist providers (such as Comcast) to net in more money for them and limit consuming downloads/uploads/file sharing via free-commercial sites?

...I suck at thinking about this. >.<

It is something similar to that... The problem is that bandwidth is limited/not growing and consumers are downloading more, consuming bandwidth.  Internet Providers want to block major bandwidth consuming websites unless they pay fees.  (youTube in particular)

I have no problem if they were to limit youTube bandwidth but I know they would not stop there.  They would threaten to block all websites unless they pay bandwidth fees... some places they would directly target are:
-Torrent tracker sites (TPB, Torrentz)
-Demolish P2P (Hurting torrentz even more and stopping limewire)
-Any streaming video website
-Any file hosting/download website
-Government websites (for more funding)

The music/movie industry would back them all the way.  Internet would become restricted in America based upon who pays the ISP. (I have a feeling that some websites would be charged obscene fees or just blocked entirely due to their nature... Torrents/P2P)  Although it is not technically a censor, it can be used as one.

I read about this on eff.org and they had a different take on it.

http://www.eff.org/deeplinks/2010/04/court-rejects-fcc-authority-over-internet (http://www.eff.org/deeplinks/2010/04/court-rejects-fcc-authority-over-internet)

basically even though they are in favor of net neutrality, they are still behind this ruling because it limits FCC powers to do unsavory things in the future.

I haven't had the energy to check this out from other sources or form any kind of well thought out opinion on this, just throwing this out there as an interesting view on this.

I understand a lot of the viewpoints but I'm just afraid of what will happen... ISPs do not just do internet.  They do phone service and TV generally...  So now they get the choice to block out competitors and FORCE their methods on people.  (Example: You can no longer use Skype or Netflix... you are forced to use cable/phone)

Not only that... What other alternatives are ISPs going to force on people?  They will now limit personal bandwidth to compensate for bandwidth used commercial industry?

FCC did a fair job as far as I'm concerned.  There have been a few cases where they have acted harshly... but I would still support them to continue with regulating internet.  I hope they regain control.  (I don't want to see another branch open up to regulate internet alone... there would be so many loopholes with what ISPs would do)

And what would happen if one ISP company decided to remain "net neutral?" Would the websites the other ISP's try to charge just say, "Ok, we'll just use this one ISP here."? Then would everyone switch to that ISP so they could access those websites? That ISP could probably charge its users slightly higher fees, and people wouldn't mind because it's the only place they could access the sites they want to use.

If that UK bill survives more than ten minutes after the next election, I'll eat my hat.
