The soul is an outdated concept rooted in a dualistic understanding of human beings (i.e., a spiritual "ghost" occupying and controlling a physical "machine"). Modern science shows us that every subjective experience happens through physical mechanisms - e.g., electrical and chemical signals in the nervous system. Your subjective sense of self is completely dependent on your nervous system.
Answer: Both. It's self-causing.My view: The soul is what keeps all your other control mechanisms (heart, logic, conciousness, d**k, etc.) from dissolving into a big inter-body war.
