Imagine if one day God came down to you and told you to kill someone, would you do it?
You are the president of the United States. You see God come down from the sky and God uses his power to make you know he is truly God. Now he tells you to test your faith to send nukes all over the world. Would you do it?

Discuss.

Note: I am Atheist.

What if the moral action in a situation offends your moral intuition? Would you do it?
If it depends then what does it depend on?

PS:It is bad news when the opening question is biased to the point that a disclaimer is needed to warn readers about the position of the opening poster.

I haven't stated any position. Just because I am atheist doesn't mean I have to think one way or another (and I don't, which is why I asked).

The one question would be why would God ask you to kill other people with no reason at all.
And don't even bring that one event with Abraham and Isaac. It was to test people's faith. If the same were to be replicated, then we know that He'll save the people we were supposed to kill. With that knowledge, could He order us to kill people "to test our faith" rather than "to test our memory or knowledge"?

Just because he (patriarchal, much?) proves himself to be 'truly god,' it still begs the question of whether he's 'truly correct.'

Not only would I *not* launch the nukes, I would probably try to punch him in his evil little face, for having even proposed such a thing.  If God wants humans to die, he can do it for himself - and I would oppose him, every single step of the way.

Wait, according to the evolution argument, God doesn't have to be 'good.' Maybe what he says is good and he can override morality. In this case if you disobey then you are acting out of god's will and therefore are morally wrong=hell or something I guess.

Different example: God told Abraham to kill his own son (yeah I know the supporting evidence with no laws at this time), but if Abraham had said no, not because he was scared to but that it was wrong to do so, could God have said you are right, but you lack faith? Maybe as president you say "no god, it's wrong." Maybe resisting obedience for what you believe is right. Lets also say God said before hand killing is wrong. So, now you have God conflicting himself.

Or is it what God says last (kind of like the over ruling referee situation in football) that matters most?
My sport is your sport's punishment.

Here is the more general and credible situation

Hypothetical situation:
In your pursuit of truth in Normative Ethics, you stumble upon a conclusion that you find morally repulsive. You fail to refute the argument (even with peer review) and you find yourself agreeing with the premises even as you find the conclusion morally revolting.

You now have the conclusion of a moral imperative that you happen to find morally disgusting. What do you do?
(You can use concrete examples if you wish. If the answer depends then explain why and how.)
