Worthy seems to be a subjective word, but it can be taken to mean the best.  Part of what is going into this is the assumption that there is an objective, best kind of life.  Imagine you were an alien looking down on 2 humans, would you be able to judge who had lived the better life without knowing anything about our customs?  Should customs and traditions even be taken into account when considering the best life (is it right to assume that there is an objective "best"?

That doesn't really help me understand your question, as you have merely replaced one undefined word ('worthy') with another undefined word ('best').

It would be impossible to discuss whether the pursuit of knowledge leads to a 'good' life without first defining what 'good' is, just as it would be difficult to discern whether path A leads to destination x without defining what destination x is.

This is part of the problem, as it seems like worthy, best, and every other way of describing this is subjective.  The best I can do is input that the best life is the happiest life, but there is no way of knowing if this is true.

We can look at the initial question in two parts:
1) Is the best kind of life the one that makes you happiest?
2) If so (and I am assuming it does) then is it better to accept the world as you belief/"know" it to be, or to question the "truth"

This is almost a debate between skepticism and ignorance acceptance.  (Which is the better life, with better implying a happier life).

If goodness = happiness, then it is not objective, as (arguably) happiness cannot be objectively measured.

In which case the answer, to me, would be simple: whatever makes a person feel happy is the 'best' for that person.

However, there would be a limit on the degree of ignorance - one cannot be so ignorant as to be unaware of the concept of 'happiness'.

So, are you saying you can do what makes you happy to a certain degree?

If the thing you are doing to make yourself happy destroys your ability to be happy, then it cannot be something that makes you happy.

It is similar to saying: I have a wine that will make me immortal after drinking it, but the act of drinking it will necessarily kill me. Clearly, this wine is really just poison, not a wine of immortality.

Wait...hold on...so, if it makes me happy to kill you...how do you respond?

That is an excellent question, I think.

If happiness = goodness, and killing me makes you happier than not killing me, and you want to maximize 'goodness', then, clearly, you should kill me.

(Note that I do not necessarily believe that happiness = goodness. I was only deriving conclusions from Laxadarap's statements)

Wait, so isn't my question a contradiction to Laxadrap?

We could extend the equation too:

appropriate happiness= goodness (kind of goes back to Mill's theory in that the most appropriate happiness's are not seen at first)
