This should test your knowledge of historical figures, not just your skill with letters.  :D  Rep to the person to answer the clue's question correctly first.

Ugh.. that was hard! Well at least it was for me; and lack of history lesson just made it worst. I only managed to decipher the clue and three words from the message. But my curiosity is killing me; so with the help of the trusty google, I finally got it! I think I better not reveal the answer so somebody else can try. Also, I bet it would be a lot harder if it's not a quote or anything that can be googled.  ;D

There is definitely a logical way to tackle the message, though I think you will be advised to use pen and paper!

Let's add another relay of - to this. The following message's words have one letter added each. Who said this?

The brave men, living and dead, who struggled here, have consecrated it, far above our poor power to add or detract.

Abraham Lincoln

I think you've got one wrong and one word is missing. But that doesn't matter much since it's just the clue. ;)

They're layer and complexity.

Yeah, the only reason I got the quote right was because I knew the reference. I had missed brave, men(man), struggled, consecrated, detract but after getting detract from the context of two words before it, I figured out the quote.
