- Bandana Waddle Dee
- Geno
- Phoenix Wright
- Doomguy (Kind of a stretch)
- Shantae (Also a bit of a stretch)
The 5 DLC characters were chosen by Nintendo and confirmed by Sakurai. This leads me to believe that the DLC characters will only be big names mostly from upcoming games, and not something like Bandana Dee or Geno, even though Bandana Dee has been my most wanted newcomer for the past two Smash games. Shantae has been deconfirmed by her creator campaigning for her on Twitter after they decided on all of the characters. Phoenix Wright is possible. Doom Guy is a longshot.
My official prediction is:
Rex
Sora
FE: Three Houses rep
Zelda rep (probably Impa)
Another 3rd party not from Square (probably Tails, Banjo, or Travis Touchdown)
No Walugi?!?! Wtf insig i thought you were a man of culture.
Also, since Diablo 3 got ported to the switch, wouldnt mind seeing a Necromancer or DemonHunter as a playable character or at least support
Does anyone else think that the graphics make it hard to see the characters and what they are doing?Yeah, that was another issue with Brawl compared to Melee and Smash 4 even more so. Ultimate seems to have even bigger special effects, so that won't help. It'll be frustrating albeit fine for party fun, but Melee will remain the competitive one.
And if we're getting another Sonic rep, it should by all rights be Knuckles. Way bigger fanbase, way cooler character.
It's so fucking good.2nd that. Been maining Samus, my old Melee main and i think shes been much improved. Spirit mode is really fun. Its nice to see a fleshed out game these days. (i havent touched online, i dont wanna be let down)
I haven't played the game or seen any gameplay of Samus but I heard she was bad.Not exactly. Maybe not the best character in the game, but she definitely isn't bad. (From what I've seen anyways)

I am new to Smash Bros and am looking for a starter main. I like being far from my opponents, so I prefer ranged combat. I prefer damage over move speed, but I would not give up jumping height. I would also like a method to escape close combat situations. Which character would suit me best?
I am also inexperienced with Switch controls, so I would prefer a character with combos and controls that are not difficult to learn.

Samus. I LOVE samus. Majority of moves are ranged, super easy to get the hang of, and can turn into a ball to escape close combat. She's pretty much exactly what you are looking for

Lucina (and Marth, but Lucina is slightly more consistent) has her down special, which is good for escaping when used well, but is fairly short range since she's a sword character with no projectiles. But her range with the sword is quite nice.

Richter (and Simon, but Richter is more consistent in the same way that differs Marth and Lucina) is slower, and has worse recovery, but has really nice ranged play with a ton of projectiles and a long range whip.
Both of these characters are much easier to pick up and play than a lot of the roster too, which is nice for someone new to the game
Oh my bad, I thought I heard somewhere that Simon had sweet spots at the tip of his whip, but a bit of research and I can't find mention of that. Correct me if they changed something in the patch but the only difference between Simon and Richter is their holy water. Simon's has flame properties and Richter's has aura properties. I don't know what aura properties do if they do anything.

There's no character that can rely too much on "ranged combat", but there's many that use it in order to connect melee attacks without risking their own hide, i.e. hitting someone who is already flying away from a ranged attack, and for starting true combos (inescapable).
