Making your own games with Project Spark

It is about to go into Beta, but requires windows 8.  Later, there will be an xbox 360 beta and xbox one beta, as well.

Requiring Windows 8 is the only thing that makes it sucky and repels me (and surely more people too). With all respect to the dev team.

yeah, win8 has a bad rep.  but 8.1 just came out and is essentially the same as win7.  personally, i was building a new computer, and knew about project spark, so figured i would give win8 a try, having heard about 8.1 and knowing the preview was available.  it put it in desktop mode and havent been all that impacted by the switch.

I have windows 8, and there are some strange things, but all in all it's not as bad as it seems

oh, i neglected to mention, i won a beta key in a competition on the project spark fan site.  i have been putting together a loose association of people who are interested in making strategy games and RPGs, and asked a project spark CM if it was possible to share the beta key if some people involved don't get in, this was their response:

"It's only one person per account. But let us know if that happens and we'll see what we can work out to get everyone keys. "

 so if you are interested in working on RPGs and strategy games, and don't get a beta key from their initial sign up ( https://joinprojectspark.com/ ), and want a key, let me know and ill see if one can be pulled up

Oh I wish I could, but I'm on a craptop without windows 8 :/ I would love to do theorycrafting with ya'll though If I can!

Pretty much that, I'm a crotchety old man who refuse to move to windows 8, but I'd love to be involved in some way or another, sounds like fun. Plus I've been toying with the idea of making a game of my own using gamemakerstudio or something simple like that, and an inside look at the process with some other people could help me ^_^;

ill see if i can set up a twitch stream to use while i am coding, there is no NDA in beta.  also, if you dont want a PC with win8, you can always just get a tablet with win8.

they said it has to be win8 in order for games to transfer between pc, xbox 360 and xbox one.  comparability issues, basically.

drake, the beta hasn't started yet, i dont technically have my key yet but the dev team was the group that offered up the beta key to the competition winner, so you're not behind in any way.  they have hinted at a first come/first served method to the beta, so the earlier you signed up, the better.  but they did say once theyre feeling secure in the servers, eventually theyll add more people until everyone is in.
