Yeah, tempo mages are fun, I think. I've been playing mostly mage on ladder since starting (I started in the middle of Naxxramas) because I liked mage and because I got a lot of the good mage cards early on. (1st legendary was antonidas... and the 2nd legendary, for that matter :p 400 dust...) I gravitated towards playing with secrets, because I really liked the idea of bluffing and decks that caused my opponents to make misplays to capitalize on. It has evolved somewhat (at the time, *nobody* was playing mage, so I used to be able to get insane value out of mirror entity, for instance; now, I just get stuff like zombie chow, so I took the mirrors out) and it has more legendaries since I started, but it's basically the same play style at its core. I'm rank 3 with it this season so far, but since I'm going out of town tomorrow morning, I don't think I'll be able to make legend with it. (only made legend once, in December, when I had 2 weeks off work)
The deck I have is a cross between tempo, secrets, and control, and it's really fun. There always seems to be lots of decisions to make, and many of the cards are completely unexpected for my opponent.
It does occasionally get punished for having too many big drops, but they win more games than they lose. It's also a little too heavy on 3 drops and rather light on 2s and 4s, but it seems to work most of the time. (having lots of 3s is lightened somewhat by the fact that kirin tors and mad scientists play the secrets for free, and because the sorcerer's apprentices make spells cheaper)
