So... heroic tavern brawl this week for 1000 gold.

As a wild player, I really wish this had been wild rather than standard.  I have absolutely no idea what's meta in standard.  (I'm told it's mostly face shaman though)

I won't be trying it out, mostly because it's standard.  I'm not sure if I'd try it if it was wild, but probably, since I actually know the meta there.  Basically, in my mind, it's like a really high risk/high reward arena run, except constructed, obviously.   Looking at the reward structure here http://hearthstone.gamepedia.com/Heroic_Tavern_Brawl you basically need at least 5 wins to break even, I'd say.  Now, over the long run, I fully expect that this is a reasonable achievement.  (In the arena, I do better than that on average)  However, because the entry fee is so high, the law of averages is less important, as one bad run can make it impossible to continue.  In the arena, one bad run won't impact your ability to continue playing arena, assuming you've got several runs worth of gold saved.  However, to have several runs worth of entry fees for heroic tavern brawl is... a lot.  Now that we know this mode will exist, we can start saving for it in future, and help reduce that problem.

The heroic brawl is definitely harder than Arena. With the record of average 3 wins in recent arena runs, I don't see this is going to be beneficial to me at all.

Just got back into hearthstone and I'm running a really ghetto aggro mage because I realized midrange shaman has a significantly weaker early game without trogg, spirit claws and maelstrom D:

How many wins do you think this deck would normally get?  It's a bit lacking in lategame, but has lots of AoE and solid endgame.

I thought it had a good chance at 12 wins, based on previous 12 win mage runs.  I figured for sure it would go 8-10 wins at least.

However, the RNG gods felt otherwise.

A combination of an incredible early game and topdecks, followed by my missing several key drops starting at turn 4, as well as prince malchezaar giving him very solid legendaries, made this a very difficult match.  Even the mad bomber went 3x to my face, followed by a topdecked firelands portal for lethal.  Looking at the replay, other than probably wasting my ice lance, I don't think I did anything wrong (if you spot a mistake, please tell me)

Okay, well, starting 0-1 usually means the next game is a free win.  Right?  Well, not when you're facing... dragon rogue?  And don't get any early drops again?  Another truly awful draw.

This guy had a pretty good start as well, whereas mine was weak, like the other games so far.  However, he stalled out in the midgame, whereas I managed to catch up and overwhelm him.  Instead of flooding the board for maximum damage, I kept back several minions, in case of some insane AoE plays, which he ended up having.  I figured since he wasn't doing much he had to have something like that in hand.

I'm not entirely sure how a constructed midrange shaman made it into the arena, or why it was only at a 1-2 record, but there you go.

This was quite possibly the worst run of RNG I have ever seen in matchmaking and draws.  Several of my 1-3 mana cards were drawn zero times in all 4 games.  Again, if you spot any mistakes in play, let me know, but other than the ice lance in game 1 and playing the piloted sky golem when I did in game 4, I didn't think any of the plays were wrong.
