Title: Duel Links
Post by: MasterWalks on April 06, 2019, 05:33:34 pm
Have you missed the nostalgia of Yu-Gi-Oh but hate all these new rules? Do you miss the aesthetic of Dark Magician or the destructive power of Blue Eyes White Dragon? Do you miss chaining your favorite spell and trap cards with your favorite monsters? Do you miss it when your opponent sets up a huge attack and you say f-u by discarding Kuriboh? Well then Yu-Gi-Oh duel links is for you! Free on Steam and on mobile. Hard to pay-to-win and easy to collect the cards you want. A helpful community and fun events and rewards.

Gonna update here idc if yall read it.

FTP. Spent like $5 trying to get a specific card but never did so i gave up spending. None of the cards i use came from the $5 spent. So i still count myself as FTP.
Made it to Platinum last season for the first time. Went from rank 0 (bronze i think?) to Gold with Gem-Knights. Good deck but vulnerable to "hard traps" (thats what i call them, dunno the real name if there is one) like Widespread ruin, Drowning Mirror Force, Dimensional Prison, etc.
Went from Gold to Platinum using Lava Golem. Saved up all my UR/SR tickets from when i started and was able to get 3 LG and some Obnoxious Celtic Guards. Bingo event helped my get Enemy Controller. If anyone decides to actually play, just build a LG deck and you can beat all the PTW decks and make it to plat relatively quickly. Lava Golem decks are completely FTP.

Season reset so im back to Gold. Lava Golem is a great deck especially in this meta where spells/traps are constantly shut down but it is so boring to play. Just sit and wait until opponent gets 2 monsters out so you can play LG then just stall him tell LG kills him.

Have a Gemini WIP deck thats getting me a 1:1 K/D in ranked and a 3:1 in casual. Playing around with it and hopefully i can make it to plat again without using LG.

Well, that WIP Gemini deck is completed and it did take me to plat again! Just in time too, new meta would've countered Lava Golem way too hard. Kinda funny that Blue Eyes was the previous meta and now its Red Eyes in the meta. With a little more work on the gemini, I think I can take it to King of Games, the final ranking. But, i have a feeling Plat is going to be filled with PTW decks and i dont have the collection to compete with that. Who knows, will update if i do make it.

Season reset which means im back to gold. Playing in ranked right now is terrible since im playing all the KoG people too. Luckily, the World Championships is going on and since I was in plat when it started, I got boosted up to DL. 10. Got a crap ton of gems and tickets. Grinded my way up to DL. 20 and got a crap ton of more gems and tickets. Used all that to fine tune the Gemini deck but still having a pain in ranked.

This meta is both really fun and complete BS. The 4 main metas;

Red Eyes Slash is fun to play against. I can counter it pretty easily UNLESS they use it in a Buster Blader splash deck. The its just BS.

Brave Neos is not fun to play against. At least the red eyes slash deck you can kill with card effect. Brave Neos blocks effects with Neos Fusion. Its BS

Subterror is a deck that beats me every time but i get so excited to play against. Its a cool concept and im still trying to figure out how to counter properly.

Metaphys can die in a hole. If you play a deck where each card takes up like 30 secs of constant effects, your not even playing against your opponent, your playing against the clock. They arent that hard to counter really, just super annoying and shouldnt be in Duel Links.

The REAL meta is splashing brave neos into any deck you possibly can. Still need to find a card that lets me banish spells/traps from opponents graveyard so I can handle them. I dont care much for Elemental Hero cards so i dont really want to build one myself.

So I was at GameStop this week and was peaking at their YuGiOh cards. ffw to today and i walked in and just grabbed a starter deck; i was wanting to get some Link monsters so i can learn to play with them. Well I ended up grabbing set of "Speed Duel" starter decks. I started looking through the the cards and realized, its the exact same as Duel Links. Skills, Playmat size, Life Points etc.
So if you have played a speed duel irl cards, duel links is the same thing! (and cheaper)

I think ive been playing long enough to point out the flaws. Every game has flaws, and it is important as a player to point out the flaws.

Konami focuses so much on not being a PtW game that it inevitably causes a super strong meta at low ranks. You can play a deck in Rookie rank, and see the exact same deck in Platinum. There is a very small difficulty curve in PvP. When you beat the tutorial, you get enough in game currency to build an impeccable meta deck; about $300-$400. You will probably use that same deck the entire time forever unless it gets nerfed to oblivion, which rarely happens. There is little experimentation and that kinda sucks.
They recycle a lot of events, and only make super minor changes. For example, Tyranno is an event that has happened about 3 times in the last 6 months. They added 1 card the second release, and 1 new skill the 3rd time they released it. I want NEW events. New cards. Once you obtain the new card/skill, you play the event for gems (the ingame currency)which is so common as is, you have more fun losing 20 times in PvP.

I still play daily. I still enjoy playing. However, all i want to do on it is Friendly duels or Non-meta duel rooms. Get no rewards from those.
i think the first flaw is pretty minor and might actually appeal to some people who are used to RL duels and only having 1 OP deck. I am not like that. My favorite thing in YuGiOh is deck building and finding cool new strategies. Sucks that when you do find one, you just take loss after loss after loss because the 5 decks in Meta are just soooo OP.

I also like the concept. They consist of almost all-types but with EARTH attribute, giving us unique EARTH Pyro, Aqua, Sea Serpent, etc. I never play against one myself and only use the Beast-Warrior one in my Anzu's "Balance Deck" and Mokuba's "Forest Deck".

Metaphys can die in a hole. If you play a deck where each card takes up like 30 secs of constant effects, your not even playing against your opponent, your playing against the clock. They arent that hard to counter really, just super annoying and shouldnt be in Duel Links.
I got annoyed with it too. I mean, it's one thing that you watch your opponent play solitaire in their turn. But against Metaphys, we watch them play solitaire in our own turn! Damn, it's making my smartphone lag.

I also like testing random decks. Other than the aforementioned "Balance Deck" and "Forest Deck", I also made "All-Type Deck" (Honda), "Sogen Deck" and "Mountain Deck" (Mokuba), Attribute-exclusive deck (so far I only have "Water Deck" (Ryota) which is my signature deck like here), Type-exclusive deck (so far I have "Dragon Deck" (Manjoume), "Machine Deck" (Bandit Keith), "Plant Deck" (Aki), "Insect Deck" (Haga), and "Dinosaur Deck" (Kenzan)), and Summoning method-specific deck (Ritual Deck (Kenzan)). I also made some duos like "Fire-Water Deck" (Isis), "Dinosaur-Reptile Deck" (Kenzan), "Dinosaur-Dragon Deck" (Ryuzaki), and "Ritual-Fusion Deck" (Asuka). Seldom make archetype-based deck, the ones I have (and remember) are "Blue-Eyes" (Kaiba), "Red-Eyes" (Jounouchi), "Elemental HERO" (Judai), "Destiny HERO" (Edo), "Ojama" (Manjoume), "Harpie" and "Amazoness" (Mai). So, I think it would be fun if I Duel you. I will add you when I figure out how to.

Im very interested to see your Balance deck. Balance is my favorite skill in the game and my main PvP deck uses it.
Currently, I havent really built around types or attributes. My optimized decks are mostly Gemini Control, Lava Golem Stall, Aquaactress, a Psychic Synchro which ive been PvPing with recently, and my OTK Gem Knight. I would love to test when you get some time. Im on daily for a couple hours. Definitly add me. (just click the person icon in the top right, then go to accept and search. Then just type in my ID.)

Huh? There's a Skill called Balance? I am sorry, but I didn't refer to that one. What I meant was a balanced Deck (with Digimon Card Battle tutorial as the master guide: 30 cards deck consists of 10 low-level monsters, 7 middle-level monsters, 3 high-level monsters, as well as 10 Option Cards (Spells/Traps). It also consists all kind of Monsters (Normal, Effect, Trap, Token, Ritual, Fusion, and Synchro), though once I unlock the Balance Skill you mentioned above, I'll try making a deck based on it.

The balance skill might not work for that deck you just listed. Balance is one of the most common skills in the game with 19 characters having access to it. The way it works is if you have at least 6 monsters, 6 spells, and 6 traps in your deck, your first hand will reflect the balance of you deck. You are guaranteed to draw 1 of each first hand. My Gemini Control deck has 8 monsters, 6 spells, and 6 traps so i normally draw 2 monsters, 1 spell, and 1 trap first hand. Very good skill for decks that have essential spells or traps.

My Balance Deck can't use that Skill then, the only Traps I put there are Cloning, Swamp Mirrorer, and Ultimate Providence. I will try building a deck based on that skill, though, once I unlock said necessary Skill.

I noticed you must've friendly challenged me when i was offline or when i was just getting offline. I saw the message when i logged back in. Its difficult to notice if youre doing a PvP run. If you wanna play sometime, hop into the blab chat, im usually there and youll get a quick response from me.

Well, you friendly challenged me first and I must've missed the time. When I saw your profile, you were last active 7 minutes prior and so I sent a Friendly Challenge back.
