Just so you know, there are no Spoilers in this thread
For those that don't know, Skyline is a new movie that recently came out. It's about aliens that come to earth and use a mysterious light to suck up people into their ships. I won't give away too much info about the movie, for those that still want to see it, but I feel I must post this somewhere, to get it off my chest.
The graphics were beautifully done. The aliens looked real (though they also seemed to resemble the aliens from the game Crisis), and the special effects with the people and aliens in the movie were very well done. In terms of visual quality, I have no complaint.
Now for the bad part. The story starts out nice. In fact, it's just like any other disaster movie (War of the Worlds, 2012, Independence Day, etc). However, after the first half hour or so, you start to see that the characters are running around in circles, the acting is below par, they always seem to make stupid decisions, and nothing is ever explained (you actually have to read WAAAAAAAAY between the lines just to understand what is going on once the movie ends).
If you think that's bad, it gets worse. You know that thing that usually goes after the beginning and middle parts of a movie? I think it's called the "ending." Yeah...this movie doesn't have it. Yup, none. Think about Pirates 2, when Barbossa walks out of the back room in the weird lady's hut, and then it just ends. Yeah, like that. The movie is set up nicely for a sequil, but without a solid ending and a lacking story, I'm not sure if anyone is going to bother seeing the second one. The concept was great, the graphics and effects were lovely, but sadly, Skyline just didn't have what it takes to be a great movie.
I'm not a review writer by any means, but I felt like I should save some people from spending $60 to see it with the family. Rent it if you must.
Overall, I give Skyline a 4/10. If anyone else has seen it, I'd like to hear some more imput.
(Also, yes, I fully understand what was happening in the movie.)
