So, for my school, each year you have to complete 10 hours of community service.
It has to be completely volunteered, you cannot be payed to do it.
The idea is that you have to give up some of your free time in order to make the community a better place.
It's not actually a lot, but it got me wondering...

Official Forums of Elements, Free Online Fantasy Card Game is an Online Community. I log in daily to look through threads, and to help out others with their ideas, as well as sharing my own. Although technically it's what I'm doing with my leisure time, I am essentially using my free time to participate and help out in a community,m online or not.

So my question is:

Do you helping out in an online community such as Official Forums of Elements, Free Online Fantasy Card Game counts towards Community and service hours, and is there any way to effectively keep track of how much you have helped out?

I don't think I actually plan on saying that these were where I've spent my service, I'm just interested in your thoughts :).

10 hours a year? My high school only requires 20 over 4 total years :O

But anyways, while it is helping out a community, it's different because it's technically what you're doing for your leisure time. So no, I don't think it would count. Otherwise I'll probably have around 100 hours by the end of my freshman year between this and band :))

The entire idea of community and service at my school is that you are giving up your leisure time to help the community.

So, if I'm helping out the community in my spare time, how is that different?

I wish helping out here counted as community service.

You lucky lucky person.

However, Evaria, I don't think schools will attach to the idea of gaining C.S. Hours by helping a "game" community, simply because the word "game" makes us sound like video game addicts to them.  We could try, but there is a high probability this suggestion would hit the dust.

I did a bit of asking out of curiosity already (Stress on a LITTLE bit), it seems to me like the only thing they really have against it is that there's no way of properly keeping track of how much I'm actually helping out.

Also, this is one of those questions where every person you ask tells you to ask someone else about it -.-

While I see your side of the argument, let's be honest, you aren't changing the world by helping out here.

I think it doesn't matter if something meets the technical requirements of being community service, it should meet the spirit of the requirements which is to improve the planet we live on.

Making people happy who play elements is a real nice thing, but what about people who need food, or the environment that is getting killed by us....

I just think there are more worthy and needy causes to contribute to.

My high school requires 70 hours a year.

I normally get it by doing a volunteer job over the summer.
