Time for a little social experiment.

First I need two volunteers for my little mind game. After that I will post further instructions and details.

Please post if you would like to volunteer. Do not be afraid.

EDIT: I now need volunteers willing to give +rep to a player should they be the only one to PM me. The more volunteers, the funner the game.

Is that a volunteer?

There is no trap here. Your mind is the only thing that can harm you.

We now have two volunteers, Malignant and Gumbeh.

Here is how the game will work:

This is based on the Prisoner's Dilemma.

There will be a time limit. You may both choose to PM me during this time.

If one of you PMs me and the other doesn't, the one who PMed me will gain a large amount of rep; the other will gain nothing. If both of you PM me you do not get anything. If neither of you PM me I will give you both +rep, but no one else will.
I now need volunteers who will give +rep to someone if they alone PM me. Once I have enough volunteers I will start the time limit. Post here if you would like to be a volunteer. Remember, the more people volunteer the more interesting it will be. I especially call upon high-rep members to volunteer.

At the end of the time limit I will reveal the results and rep will be given out ... or not.
Don't cry because it's over, smile because it happened.

The question is whether anyone will actually get any rep. That's the fun of the Prisoner's Dilemma.

I hate to be Buzz Killington here, but using rep system for any kind of games or social experiments is a bad thing. Reputation should only be given when someone earns it, not when it's part of a game. This means all topics that encourage rep giving to people who hasn't really deserve it, like me starting a "I give you rep, you give me rep" topic.

If you want to test this thing out, please use something other than rep. Thanks.

So... some of us feel that rep has intrinsic value, and some of us feel that rep is kinda like handing each other gold stars or shiny rocks.

In a place where people will +rep each other for things like liking the same element or having a neat username, does it really matter if the latter group decides to mess around?

Something other than rep? Like what? A forum award icon? A reward code? I can't give either, and neither can be expressed as a lesser form. Plus, giving them would probably devalue them.

Ideas?

Well I would gladly donate 6000 electrum of unused tourney codes to someone that spent 5 seconds sending you a private message.
In case you haven't figured it out yet, I'm obviously not being serious about this. It's a flawed game that is boring for everyone and doesn't take any skill to play. Anything other than a hi-five would be too large of a prize. But I do  actually have the tourney codes.
