GoDaddy = Fail https://elementscommunity.org/forum/index.php?topic=8973.msg105396#msg105396

Godaddy is known for its techs never knowing what's really going on, so take whatever they say with a grain of salt.

It seems that (depending with where you live) www.elementsthegame.com might not load.

I spoke with the godaddy support service and they told me "Nothing is wrong with the domain name or the servers. It is probably some re-routing going on and everything should be working within a few hours".

I usually do not believe the information they give me through the support center and I am quite sure that generic re-routings do not occur as natural phenomena on the internet and they DID something. But I guess all I can do is wait and train my voice for the yelling I'll be doing later with the unlucky phone operator that will get my call later today if elementsthegame.com is still not working.

In the while, as SG said:
http://www.elementsthegame.net/ (http://www.elementsthegame.net/)
GoDaddy failing is no surprise to me. Everywhere I go, I meet someone who is bashing GoDaddy hosting. They always have some problems and they always blame the client.
UPDATE:
They finally admitted that "oops, yes, there is a problem, we do not know what is the problem but there is one". Please give us between 24 and 72 hours  :o to fix it.

Everything else works fine just the domain name is not working, and if the client says your game is saved: it is.

P.S. : I do my best not to yell at phone operators, and I understand that they probably get hundreds of phone calls from people that:
"My website is not working"
"Is your modem on?"
"Oh do I need a modem to see it?"

BUT...

Do not tell me that it is not Godaddy's fault and that you can open my website no problem when I average 20,000 visits per day and today I got 2!
as a former GoDaddy tech support phone monkey, I can safely say their focus is NOT on solving problems, but in selling new product.

The problem is that the guys who answer the phone can fix nothing.  They request information to be send to the guys who CAN fix stuff (administrators) who get to it when they feel like it.  Admins do not answer phones, and do not feel the pressures from customers.

Zanz, please don't yell at the phone moneys...get a supervisor, and then get *HIS* supervisor and yell at HIM instead.  Anyone who insists there is no supervisor is lying.  If the supervisor says there is no supervisor, they're lying.  Write to the Office of the President, they have a lot more power than some poor phone monkey.  I also love the Office of the President ackronym they use around the office - OOPS  These are the people who can get on administrators to fix things.

The first schmoe you were talking to tried to give you a 'propagation' answer, which clearly is not the issue.  It's a standard reply we used to give when someone said their site isn't working now, but was working a few minutes ago.  "You must have changed your DNS settings, or your ISP cleared their cache and you have to wait 48 hours for it to propagate betyeen the 13 root servers."  I've told hundreds of customers that in my day.

Yelling never solves anything with tech support.  You have to remain calm, and simply overpower them with your knowledge until they realize you know more than they do.  Once you have established that, you can make them do what you want them to do, including getting help from smarter techs who usually KNOW the administrators, and can push through the red tape.

Vinegar vs. honey and all that.

BTW: As far as their messing with domain transfers and such, it's usually a misunderstanding on the customers part.  If you want to transfer a domain, do it in the middle of the registration cycle, not at the end.  If you try to transfer a domain at the end of the registration, you get issues and problems.  If you do it in the middle, you KEEP the time you paid for, and it moves without an issue.
And thats not even all the things said. So what do you think?

I know a lot of people who hate GoDaddy hosting. If you look at some of these online review sites, GoDaddy always scores very low, and there are many stories on how GoDaddy destroyed websites.

I think there are a couple of reason for this:

1. Although GoDaddy hosts tons of websites, their main bread and butter is domain names. I think hosting is something they offer, but don't really care about that much. Companies that do only hosting, generally do a much better job at it.

2. GoDaddy is too big. When you buy hosting from smaller companies, you generally get much better customer service. GoDaddy on the other hand has thousands of employees, and millions of customers, and nobody seems to know what's going on. When you contact them the first time, you always have to talk to someone who knows absolutely nothing. Once you get slowly up the ladder, you might eventually find someone know knows what he's talking about.

Then again there are those lucky ones who never have any problems with GoDaddy.

I have some experience with GoDaddy hosting and I can't recommend it to anyone. There are just so many both better and cheaper options out there.
