I had to do a Social Studies project on a Hero or a Tyrant, and I inadvertently chose Napoleon Bonaparte without actually knowing much about him. After studying books, I became confused.

Is Napoleon a hero or a tyrant?

Napoleon.... is a narcissistic idiot. Just because he was good at being an artillery captain, he thought that meant he would be good at being a leader.
I remember at one time (1798) the French government was afraid of his popularity, so they let him go attack any country he wanted. Of all things he chose Eygpt. Napoleon fought against the Mamluk in the Battle of the Pyramids, and was hugely successful, however, here was the stupid part; at this time, they were still fighting England, who has a better naval force than them! So the Brits send Horatio Nelson, and he destroys the ENTIRE French fleet in the Battle of the Nile.
20,000 French soldiers are now stranded in Eygpt with Napoleon. They then set about raping and pillaging in Damascus and Syria. Then, here's where Napoleons true colors show the most, in 1799, a chance to go back to France is given to him, and him alone, and he takes it. 20,000 soldiers abandoned to die in Egypt.
  Some 'hero' that would be.
