Thing about Australia, you're not going to find all the super deadly snakes and stuff until you go pretty far inland into bush areas. I live nearby the bush, but even then I've never seen a snake in Australia. They're quite timid creatures that sense off vibrations, and as long as you're walking with a group or something they're going to try to get as far away from you as possible. Honestly the only snake I've seen came from a trip to France when I was younger.

Spiders are pretty commonplace, though, most of the ones I've seen aren't too deadly. Mind you I have seen a few funnel web nests (holes in the ground surrounded by webs, generally regarded as the most venomous spider in Australia, and one of the most deadly in the world. But I haven't actually seen one, so I can't really consider it the same.
Beyond this, I used to go on holidays to the seaside, where we would often go to a particular beach with a bunch of rock pools (or tide pools). In a lot of those, you would often see octopuses under rocks and such. I don't know how venomous they are, but that would probably be it.
I have fond memories of finding a few of these, and tossing little shells I found to them, then watch them come out of their hiding spot to snatch them and go back. It was quite fun~

As a citizen of both Australia and New Zealand, I'm a bit of a guru here :D

  • Aussie's- scariest/ most dangerous creature you have had an encounter with?
  • NewZelanders- Most of 'Lord of the Rings' was shot in NZ, Have you been to any of these locations? And if, so which ones?

Australia may be famous for it's dangerous creatures, but I live in one of the safest areas, so unfortunately I don't have any tales of crocodile wrestling or shark-punching to share with you lot. As far as danger goes, there are stingrays, but they're actually really gentle you can feed them and it's fine (imo steve irwin must have been doing something pretty dumb to get a ray he knew about to sting him, usually it only happens if you stand on one). There are spiders too, big hairy ones. I run into a web nearly every day :D
The scariest creature I ever encountered was the german shepherd of a guy I delivered the newspaper to as a kid. Every week I feared for my life, it'd be barking and trying to barge through the broken screen door of this guy's house. Standing on its hind legs the dog was much bigger than me, and I had to scramble around in front of it trying to work out where the guy left the money for the paper. I thought the door would burst open at any moment.

I have a confession.
Spoiler for my confession:
I haven't watched the main lord of the rings movies.

:o :o :o
Treasonous I know. So honestly I couldn't tell you if I've been there.

How true is this? Have you ever encountered a shark with frickin lasers? :P
Spoiler for Hidden:
Really accurate, although bushfires and jellyfish are a bit more widespread than that map suggests. Blame the mercator projection

I'm a U.S. redneck/mountain man/homesteader (backwoods PA), but in my gaming days, did WoW on an Aussie server (which is where I got my only rl friend from gaming; she's in Perth) a few years, and did LotRo a couple of years on NZ server.
Kiwis are a bit too PC for me, in general (they found me a bit outrageous, lulz); tend to get along better w/ Bogans (who find me outrageous as well, lulz x2).

Got a question:

How are kiwis related to Australian members of this forum? I don't get the connection, maybe it's an insider joke among a few people here.

Australians joke about NZ being a part of australia, and Kiwis call Australia the "west island" of NZ.

I mean aside from the rock being in the wrong place, it's fairly accurate. Mosquitoes are everywhere, not just the coast though, and bushfires are everywhere as well (but the picture pointed it to Victoria due to the Black Saturday bushfires).

Very very popular, and is somewhat comparable to England w/ the rest of the UK where anything good that comes out of NZ came from Australia, and anything bad came from NZ. It's also popular in the media, and is a generally popular feud. They also participate somewhat in the national rugby league.

Some video lol
100% there for the taking
New and united
(Note that for the last one, there's a joke in it that I'll explain. There's a famous cricket match which happened 35 odd years ago, between Aus and NZ, where Aus had 1 more bowl, and NZ had to make 1 more run to win. The Australian threw an underhand throw, basically rolling it on the ground. A bowl which is basically impossible to get a run off. Australia went on to win that match and nobody liked the Aus cricket team for a while)

Australia is a lot more PC in recent years, following the trend of America honestly. But despite this, there's still a ton of racial commentary in Australia, which I find a lot of it terribly cringy. We did "recently" legalise gay marriage though.
Tl;dr there are a lot of people on complete opposite sides of the spectrum, both who are incredibly boisterous about their opinions, and Australian politics is a mess.

Australia and New Zealand have a close relationship because of sporting rivalries and war history as well as Australia (kinda) being New Zealands closest neighbor making it an easy choice for an overseas holiday/emigration
