Installing RAM on my computer problem https://elementscommunity.org/forum/index.php?topic=17919.msg228587#msg228587

So I bought and installed RAM on my computer (1 GB each for two). It starts up fine but after it suddenly goes blue screen and it says something about a dirty file. After cleaning it, it starts up again, but then it goes to another blue screen saying that there is a problem with your computer and stays there unless I turn off the power. Any help?

It happened again. The blue screen says "the problem seems to be caused by the following file: wdmad.sys

PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA"

You don't have Windows 98, do you?  :P

But seriously, that sounds a bit too technical for this forum.  You are better served by using Google and you'll run into several computer help forums.

I know nothing about your problem but I suspect there is something broken about the ram you got.

Try using just 1 ram slot instead of both and see what happens. If you can boot on just one normally then maybe the other is broken. You can also try with one slot of old ram, one slot of new ram.

you also may have got the wrong kind of ram?

that is about the extent of my knowledge and ability to help.

hmm I can only speak to the obvious; try each ram at a time, and try on different slots, one of the slots (but more often one of the actual ram cards themselves) might be damaged.

Other than that.. I guess make sure you've inserted it all the way (that's what she said), it shouldn't jiggle, it should fit snug (again, what she said)  The pins should snap over the card, right where there is a semi-circle on both sides of the card.

can ur computer handle this much? i know when i upgraded my laptop from 1 gb to 2 gb i had to look up what kind of Ram is compatible with my computer and also how much this model could take. unfortunately if your computer is not able to take in 2 gb or u did not get a compatible set of RAM it will not work.
I would do as the others stated and try each one to see if maybe the RAM itself was damaged in shipping somewhere.
