Oh, of course you can, but it also tells you which buddies are online and puts their names in bold, so you can instantly see if they are on or not without reading through the sometimes extensive list. o-o

I'm not sure if adding a buddy makes you show up on their list, because I buddied Evil Hamster and Scaredgirl, but they both claim to not have me on their buddy lists. All it does is inform you that your buddies are online.
