Help, I'm Building a Gaming Computer! https://elementscommunity.org/forum/index.php?topic=17277.msg219995#msg219995
« on: December 09, 2010, 03:37:56 am »
I've been using my old Dell since forever and it's grown hopelessly out of date.  I figured that out myself last year when I tried to upgrade to a new video card only to realize I didn't even have a PCI-E slot to put one in.  Anyways this year I decided it's best to start from scratch and build one myself.

I used sites like build-gaming-computers.com (http://www.build-gaming-computers.com/index.html), shopbot (http://www.shopbot.ca/) and graphics card rankings (http://thepcreport.net/reviews/hardware/graphics-card-rankings-list/) to put this list together.  I'd be ordering the processor, ram and the copy of windows online while the rest of the stuff is all from a local chain (so no shipping).

So here is the list of parts for the budget gaming pc I'm considering.  I don't play shooters and it doesn't have to be able to run Crysis, I'm more interested in stuff coming out soon like SW:ToR & Diablo III... and of course Elements.

Questions:

Good choices?
Are these parts compatable?
Enough power?
Missing anything?
Any advice in general or otherwise?

I dunno much about all the hardware and stuff, but I use an ASUS laptop and it's incredible. It's almost as fast as a mac (that's a big accomplishment considering it runs windows 7 :P) and it's got close to 5 hours on a full charge.

lol the fact that you said you don't know "much about all the hardware and stuff" I think means you shouldn't be commenting such hateful words against Windows.  I'm gonna try to not start something about mac...

Anyways.

Looks good to me, but I'd suggest investing in a blu-ray for the optical drive, I don't know THAT much about gaming itself, but if you're going to have a beautiful surround sound system and glorious display to accompany this gaming computer, this would be a great home theater as well, and now, a home theater is nothing without 1080p resolution from that wonderful Blu-Ray.
