A Feeling of Nostalgia ~ The First Time I Played Elements https://elementscommunity.org/forum/index.php?topic=44135.msg1008496#msg1008496

Whenever I play elements nowadays, I feel like I'm working a job or something. So, in attempt to make this game fun for me once again, I'm trying to recreate the first time I played the game.

It was Halloween three years ago when the game had just began to slowly become something. I remember handing out candy with Owl City on while I played elements, discovering all this game had to offer.

I'm going to create a new account, start with a new element, toss on Owl City and see how everything goes. I'll let you know what happens and if I can get that same feeling.

While this is goin' on, how about you guys talk about your first time playing EtG and if you've still been able to hold that imaginative and fun feeling of discovery throughout your entire time playing.

EDIT #1: Started with :earth - I never really learned how to use it effectively, so I decided to learn the secrets to each card.

Hehehe, everyone in my ongregate room was hyping it so hard, and dialup just didn't want to load it. Finally, one day i got to play, and I chose gravity. I loved it, I loved the game and how it felt and how it looked. i thought Gravity/Death duo was the most badass deck ever. All my decks had 60 cards. Good times.

My first deck was also gravity. However, because I wanted to do a lot of different strategies, I made 4 more accounts for a total of 5 accounts and farmed T50 with all of them. Eventually, one account (not my original main unfortunately, hence the numbers after my IGN), which used a CoL-typed deck, stood out as being much more efficient. I eventually made enough money off of T50 to get ScaredGirl's almost fully unupped deck.
Good times.

CoL?

I first tried Time. Deja Vu Spam, Fate Egg, you know. Stuff.
After got severely beaten, i checked the forum, and make a FFQ deck, then Shrieker Rush. It was a smooth sail from there on.

I started with  :time, because my friends who had played elements for about a month had told me it was the strongest element. I just sold the non-time cards and played that for a bit, then made a  :fire deck with 24 fire pillars and 6 crimson dragons, which I thought was awesome because it's winrate on ai3 was over 50/50. Then I found the shrieker rush on the wiki and played with that, and some pvp. I saw dimensional shield there, and I thought the other person was hacking because the shield would never go away even though it said 3 turns (he was chaining the shields. So I bought some of those and added them to my shrieker rush along with aether pillars. I went back to pvp1 ready to own everyone with those shields and faced monoaether for the first time. I lost, and received my fist advice ever, ''monoaether is better ;)''. At the time, i didn't understand what monoaether was. When I found mono aether on the wiki, it said, ''this deck used to be the mainstay of deck ecology until phase dragon was nerfed. Still a powerful deck, but no longer the only one worth playing'' That impressed me, although to this day i have no idea what that sentence means exactly. So I built monoaether (6 shields 6 dragons 18 pillars) aaaannnndddd farmed False Gods with it. I farmed so much my score went into the thousands of negative. But I beat every god that was available with mono aether (even rainbow, jezebel, hermes lol) simply by the sheer number of times I faced them. Then i found sg's almosy unupped, then i used a almost fully unupped version of sg's ultimate, and an unupped version of all of puppychow's decks, which i loved the most (especially the ''the-compeltely-unoriginal-but-semi-original-FGbow'').

Edit: holy *** that was long.

I finished playing a stickman game on this website and decided to try a new game. I went to the home page and decided to try out 'Card Games' because the preview picture looked cool. When the page loaded, (I was using the Dial-up of our old computer - us kids weren't allowed on the new 'work' one yet) I scrolled down to find the picture. It turned out it was from a game called 'Elements', which I though sounded pretty cool as I was in that fantasy-phase (still am ;)). so I clicked it, and made an account, etc. When it came to the Element section, I looked through them all and chose :aether. (I can't remember my reasoning) I did the first few quests, taking out at least half the pillars in my deck, thinking 'I don't need too many of these' (for a full account of what my brain went through, check out www.youtube.com/AnneleElementsWiz). After a bit of playing, I decided I liked it, and noted the name of the game in my head. I did not like playing on the host site, so the next time I went on the computer I googled 'Elements' and clicked the second option. I came to what is the main site of Elements, and have played there ever since.
As my game didn't save, I started again with Gravity, which I hated because of its slow damage and small defense. I quickly reset again, this time with Time (because it was the opposite of Aether), and then  a couple more times, but I can't remember to what.

Fast forward a couple of years of playing on and off (and failing) until early last year, when I tried PvP 1 and found a deck only containing pillars, ghosts and nightmares. I asked the opponent, and I quote, "Does your deck only have Ghost of the Pasts, Nightmares and pillars?" the reply was "basically". From this, I sold all the cards of my second account and made my first deck with a strategy, a ghostmare. I was shocked that I was able to actually beat level 3, and even sometimes level 4! I started a new account and tried to make other strategies based on the Level 3 decks. I didn't like the lack of PC in my decks, so I googled for all the PC cards to help me. I came across none other than Xeno's PC and PP card idea series. I was hypnotised. I'd go to one card idea thread, read the whole thing, and hope I'd be lead to another thread in it. I wanted to comment on a card once, but found I had to have an account. I tried to make one, and found I had to be 13. Boy, that was a long wait.
I realised I could look at card ideas from the Card Idea and Art board, and made my way looking through that, sometimes even formulating my replies before moving on to the next. I think I got up to about page 60-something.

Then, on my 13th birthday, I finally made an account. I also made an account on Facebook, but I rarely used that and more often I spent time on my new laptop in the forum, mainly making cards and commenting on others'. I now cringe at the sucky-upy way I phrased comments.

The rest is history.

Do I win the competition of longest backstory?

I am perhaps an oldie because I first played elements when it was just three months old. I remembered I was searching for a wiki that contained the chemical elements when EtG wiki popped up instead. It was an immediate interest at first sight. I was so amazed with the cards and the ideas, especially the pillars and quanta production. I felt amazed that even :gravity existed as an element. I started with :aether as I love ethereal energy (e.g. lightning). Good job zanz!

Found it the day after it came out on MoFunZone, in June 2009. Picked water, played for a while, and then Mind Flayer came out on July 4th. Fell in love with it, turned my deck into a duo, and then lost touch with the game because we got got screwed out of our house.

Looked it up again in February 2010, found that it had been taken down on MFZ (I now know that MFZ hosted the game without Zanz's permission, so he disabled it's server, or something). Went to the official site, found that I could no longer access my account, created a new one and picked Aether this time. Went through another mind flayer deck until I found EtG on Facebook on April, saw it link a Parallel Immophoenix deck from the forums, made a retarded 40 card version, and posted my version on April 16th. You won't find this post anymore :P

After that I found Essence's Mono-Aether, became utterly fascinated with War 1 and the CIA section, and the rest is history. Apparently.

Went into kong.
Some brazilian guy showed it to me.
Got hooked up.
Restarted 13 times (one for each element and once at 16k score), took a 2 month break..
And then left again a while back.

To be honest, there's a very easy way for me to get that "I'm back to my roots" feeling in this game. Turning the speakers up, destroying all other sound and turning the volume of the game back up. The sound of them cards spinning and of the firebolt tossing..

Awesome.

Ah, my first time playing Elements. It was a dark, stormy night...

JK. The first time I played Elements was this past April, when my friend showed it to me during Computer Science class in school. My first element was :time, as I thought that repeatedly skipping my opponents turn would be pretty awesome :). I worked so hard to build my deck up to 60 cards, and didn't know how it was possible to get the 100+ :electrum to buy a dragon.

This part made me laugh. I remember when I thought the 500 score quest was for the best of the best in my earlier days with the game :)
