Even with his double draw, I would have decked out, not him.
While that is possible, it is only possible if he manages to spend a large portion of the game at seven cards in-hand. This basically does not ever happen concurrently with him being able to spam eagle eyes (i.e. it almost always happens because he bottomdecks
nearly all of either the EEs or the AWs resulting in his hand filling up with the other of the two - basically every other card besides the fire lances he plays immediately), and only happens
at all quite rarely. In my experience, maybe 5% of games (if that) end in player deckout.
If some really truly bizarre situation has occurred and he's holding 7 cards in hand
and has several EEs on the field, if you antimatter an EE and do not quint it, he'll blow a lance on it, which can get him back to double-drawing.
At any rate, like I said, you got unlucky. It
can happen. It
does happen. However, it frequently
does not happen.
