This is just a minor qualm, but I've always though Lightning and Thunder Bolt were just a little too cheap for what they do.  Increasing the cost of each by one aether should be enough to balance it.

Meh.  1 damage for five?

This is a game where most creatures have less than five attack.  And by most, I mean almost all of them.  Will edit in percentage.

Making it cost another quanta wouldn't be too big of a nerf.

EDIT:  Of the 81 creatures in game (counting nymphs but not flying weapons), 60 of them will get one shotted by a lightning bolt.  (this doesn't factor in growth or stone from, and upgraded, the number is actually 57).  This means that roughly 3/4ths of all creatures can be one-shotted by Thunder Bolt for the measly cost of one aether.

Just needs a minor nerf.

Shockwave is 1 for 4 with the extra freeze=instant kill
Congeal is freeze for 4 turns(basicly removing a creature fo4 turns)

Logically or mathematically, it might seem too powerful for the cost.
But practice shows that it's not very popular and I don't know a single deck abusing it's power to the extent where it would need a nerf.

So, I'll go with practice. No need to change.

I prefer basilisk blood in my deck. If the creature is targetable, then it's out of commission for 6 turns regardless of its defense. Since I don't have any cards in my deck that take hp into consideration, the hp boost doesn't matter to me. The only case where I'd definitely would have rather drawn a thunderbolt is against an otyugh *eyeroll*.

You're right, getting 5 damage for 1 quanta IS overpowered (http://elementswiki.co.cc/cards-fire/fire-bolt-fire-lance/).  *Cough*

Edit: Whoops, meant 3 per 10. and Firebolt is more situational because you need at least 11 (10?) to get that 6 for 1

Any deck that uses Firebolt is going to make sure to have a massive store of fire quanta available.  I suppose you do have something of a point in that you need to have the quanta stockpiled in order to get the damage where Lightning you can drop on the first turn if you so choose, but since both spells are generally used as Creature Control, you'll have the time to stockpile some quanta anyway.  As for the occasion when you use it against your opponent, that'll be a late-game maneuver (final turn even) since you don't yet know if he's going to have nasty creatures you'd rather burn.

Not broken.  Yes it's cheap, but generally speaking it's a card for card trade.  They play a creature, you bolt it; it isn't a constant killer like oty or a mass killer like pandemonium (I think oty is busted, I think pandemonium is fair).

I have no problem with Lightning Strike.

You can have a maximum of 6 of them in your deck.
Most decks run more than 6 creatures - or buffs (Quintessence/Plate Armor/Chaos Power)

So, as someone mentioned before - it is a card for card trade.

Compare that concept with (as mentioned) an Otyugh, Eagle Eye, or Maxwell's Demon.

Each of these cards has the potential to kill 6+ creatures in a game.

So - Lightning Strike is balanced. If it wasn't - you'd see a lot more people using it. The fact is, a reverse time + quanta denial / congeal or basilisks blood - can also nullify creatures. Let's not mention Antimatter.

Should be nerfed because it costs so low for high damge like making it cost 3/2 would be good.
