True, it would depend on the deck. Parasites or bloodsuckers are cheaper. Normally toadfish and squid cost too much water. In a water deck with mark of air, I would agree. I can't see how you'd get the

in it. Also the toadfish could serve as a main attacker, so you would be right to just spam toads and squids. In a rainbow deck with 3 squids and 3 parasites, adding damage dealers can be quite arduous, which is why the squid is not the preferred way to go. An oty with some HP lowering spells or plate armour is more efficient, card wise.
I'd be tempted to check if a fractaled squid + permafrost shield could maybe lock the whole deck without making a single kill.
