Not bashing techno (I'm a trance head myself) but, techno's pretty predictable too. It's the same thing for 8 bars, then something gets added, then 8 bars later, something else gets added. The thing that makes it (imo) better than mainstream stuff is the intricacy of some of the stuff. It's tough making 15+ layers of instruments and sounds audibly palatable.

The kind of Techno music you are describing is actually a kind of digital minimalism. Minimalism was made popular in the "classical" realm before it was accepted as a mainstream musical form. I really like it because it completely takes the focus off of melody, harmony, and form, putting the focus instead on repetition and its effect on the value of change. I have played some minimalist music, and it is really refreshing to play something without having to think about where my note fits into the ensemble sound.

Almost all trance is like this. Every 8 bars, a new rhythm, melody, or vocal is added to the mix. Some of the stuff gets really really intricate. Here's one of my favourite tracks: Cerf, Mitiska & Jaren - Begging You (Armin van Buuren remix) (

Look up Philip Glass, Terry Riley, or Steve Reich. They are some of the most famous composers of the genre. Here is Terry Riley's piece, In C:

Ooo, just heard "the poet and his muse", I really like how bardic it is.

I had an idea for "bard hero" a flash game where you're a bard telling stories to kids, so you have something to watch instead of boring arrows, this would be exactly the song I'd put in it.

tool is a hard rock/metal band and their songs are never the same and Maynard the singer sounds different in each song.im a metal head and i listen to lots of different metal for example Korn,Slipknot,Mudvayne,Tool,soulfly and ect they all sound different.

I know what your getting at Glitch. Most music is very formulaic, especially on the radio. It's funny though, because after 13 years being the  'sound guy' for electronic music events for my career, much of that radio formula stuff is quite relaxing to me now. I would still pick something electronic for my own preference, but where i used to shy away from pop music, I can appreciate it now. In small doses anyway.

So I imagine Glitchy electronica is what your into? I used to do many a glitch event in Los Angeles. It was my staple job actually.
