A more complex Multilingual section? https://elementscommunity.org/forum/index.php?topic=25310.msg322542#msg322542
« on: April 29, 2011, 01:09:36 pm »
This was suggested before by someone, forgot who.

Question is: is there a need for a more complex multilingual section? Here (http://elementscommunity.org/forum/index.php/board,57.0.html) is what we currently have. It's just one section with a bunch of topics. We could have a separate section for each language/region. For example:

German Section
French Section
Nordic Section
Chinese Section
etc.

This way the Multilingual sections would be more than just places where you say "hi". They could have all kinds of cool stuff like tutorials etc.

I will set up a poll to get some feedback. Also post your ideas and suggestions here. Thanks.

Sezione tedesco;
Sezione francese;
Sezione scandinava;
Sezione cinese;
etc.

I'm a native French speaker, but I understand and speak English well enough for any discussions.

However, I voted yes. I know some of my friends, playing Elements, that speak English as well as me, but won't join the Forums because of the language. For these people, a Multilingual section would be helpful before they decide to participate in English.

For these sections, I'd propose a quick glossary of terms commonly used in the text cards, and above all a translation of the Game Mechanics and rules.
Went AWOL. No reason.
Now silent. May return.

I´m german and my english is not so good, but I understand everything. Since I´m not out to become an uber-poster, it´s enough for me to just read the topics. Way more than that, I would like to see a national flag beside my opponents name (pvp).
A more complex language section would be come in handy though, for those who don´t have basic knowledge of English.

This is awesomestuff.
I'm Norwegian and understand/speak english pretty good, but I think this is a good idea.
And 'our' thread is pretty inactive, so some rework can be really good.

Needs a fourth option. Something like: English is my first language, but I still think it would be a great idea.

Not really. If you don't plan on using the section, you shouldn't vote whether or not it is a good idea. We only need votes from people who are going to use it, otherwise we might have everyone voting that it's a great idea, but when I start the section, nobody will use it.

So as a reminder to everyone.. if you do not use the Multilingual section, please choose option 3 or do not vote at all. Thanks.

We're posting versions in all sorts of languages now? Let me make a dutch translation :P

    Duitse SectieFranse SectieNoorse SectieChinese Sectie
etc.

Bedankt.

I voted the second option of the poll because, even though my english is good enough to understand the entire game and forum (except the non-english multilingual topic xD), I know there are some people whose one isn't as good as needed.

Even though English is my first language, I voted for yes. I think it would be helpful for people whose English is somewhat weak to get introduced to the community.

Considering my personal preferences, I tend to vote "no", only because I'm comfortable with English and would rather have all information I'm looking for in one place. But then again, probably I'm not the main focus of this initiative. Anyone who doesn't have a basic grasp of the English language might find this pretty interesting, and even though I wouldn't use it myself, I would support it and contribute in some way if it would help them.

I'm posting a Portuguese version below (since everybody else is translating it). BTW, wouldn't it be interesting to place a sticky with a link to this thread in the Multilingual section? Otherwise people with the most interest in this might miss it.
