Three very different answers for me !

Pokemon was the "first", as thousands of other kids. It was dubbed in French of course, it sounded like every other cartoon even if it was Japanese.

The first subbed anime I watched was Popotan, a 12-episode tale (I loved the soundtrack). I've been told years after that this anime was adapted from an adult game (which explained the mild-nude scenes in the episodes).

I really jumped into the world of anime with Death Note (without having read the manga). So interesting I was spending hours of continuously viewing ^^

Pokemon was my first anime, but it wasn't what got me into the category.

I found Yu Yu Hakusho and Case Closed (Detective Conan) on Adult Swim, which made me really like anime. Also the fact that anime's 22 minute shows>most American 22 minute shows that fill the same cartoon spot.

my 2 first was yahmato (star blazer in italian) and jeeg-robot (in italian) i have wrily love it wenn i was young

I still love it now.

Second was Dragon Ball Z. I started getting into that because I though android 18 beating everyone up was so cool (first episode I watched was the 18 vs Vegeta one)

I can´t get anything out of all these newer animes like DBZ etc. That´s because I´m a bit too old.

Well my first anime was pokemon when I was a kid, though I didn't even knew that it was anime.

But my first anime was I think Bleach (Or digimons) I watched it on TV with czech subtitles (I thought it was cartoon again and I liked it) and then on web with english subtitles (I remember that my english was terrible and I asked myself what does word "understand" mean? And after year of watching my english tremendously improved)

And first manga was Naruto I think.
