...Not that I watch this show. It's for little girls and creepy old perverts I would never even think of watching it. Ever.
I just started watching it a couple days ago, but even before I did, I noticed something about MLP-related discussions.  Usually the people who said "seriously?  it's a show for little girls" seemed like they were trying not to be associated with the show out of embarrassment.  The people advocating MLP, on the other hand, didn't seem like perverts or creepy at all - they weren't treating the show as soft porn, but were rather in it for the fun factor.

After having seen the show, it's obvious why it appeals to a wide range of ages.  The art is exceptional, the characters are fun and well-developed, the music is incredibly good (the show boasts some musical numbers on the same level as the like of Rodgers and Hammerstein), and despite being a show with young girls as a target market, the stories and especially the humor are pretty obviously not entirely intended for a young audience (not dirty humor, but humor that would go over kids' heads).  People in their late twenties are also likely to have children around the show's target age, so it's not surprising that the show seems to have undergone the "Spongebob effect."

I watch old school Sesame Street too; am I a pervert for that?  Cookie Monster is pretty hot, yo.

Well to be honest I'm personally not all that concerned with the kids show part (liking stuff like Muppets is actually somewhat trendy), the real reason I don't really want people to know is the other fans. This isn't the case for all fans of course, but I find the really hardcore bronies really annoying. Like they have a pony avatar, pony nickname, pony signature, which is alright by itself, but then you couple it with the fact that they only talk about pony things and use pony grammar like "everypony"- it get's really obnoxious. This would be the case for anything like religion, or heavy metal, or sports teams. But with MLP fans in particular you see it so much and to such a great extent.

On another forum I go on there's like ten people who all have pony avatars and for a while they would post pony shit constantly until moderators stepped (the moderators that weren't part of this group, that is). I mean, I really enjoy the show, I even enjoy the culture with all the memes and fanworks. Again, I know these aren't all of the fans, but there are so many of them exclaiming their love so loudly in the most obnoxious way that it's like "We get that you like ponies. In face I like ponies too. That's cool but seriously we get it. Don't you have other interests?"

That is, speaking in the context of the theoretical case where I also liked ponies.

You're giving me whiplash.

Can't say I've run across too many "extreme" pony fans myself, but I've only recently been exposed to the culture, anyway... in fact my first encounter with the show in any form was about two weeks ago, I think, via the webcomic "Least I Could Do."  I've never been an extreme fan of anything myself, as far as I can remember, but extreme fandom doesn't really bother me.  If it bothers you so much, why even read a topic like this one?

I certainly hope I do not give the impression that I believe this thread is solely inhabited by extreme fans. There are many casual admirers like yourself. In fact only one or two people verge on taking it too an extreme as far as I can see.

I am surprised you have not seen much pony fandom. Are you not in any other online communities? I'm not a Steam guy myself but my high school buddy said that for quite a while it was positively overflowing with the most zealous of My Little Pony fans.

What I admire most about the show is the crew and cast behind it. They're the ones making sure the show is awesome and fun for all. As for them hardcore fans, I've had my share of them. They will rip a new one to any "haters" out there, which is fun to see, but their zealousness is over the top. I'm a pony fan, but I'm only going to say it in front of the proper people on the internet. The last episode was really good IMO because it demonstrates how hard it can be for people that used to be bullies, lets say, and how hard it can be for them to reintegrate the social order as something else, in this case, the herd. I also like the vibe from the show. It makes all my stress and anger from my day go away in 20 seconds flat ( I'm not joking, I took the time with a timer). So I watch this Purely for it's relaxing and anti-stress properties along side that it's genuinely a rare good show.

I hope it won't stop before season 5 at least.

Lauren Faust (MLP:FIM, Powerpuff Girls) reminds me of Genndy Tartakovsky (Dexter's Lab, Samurai Jack).  Imagine if the two of them were to collaborate...

Holy crap.  Just got to season two... and it has JOHN.  FREAKING.  DeLANCIE.

And he's pretty much playing Q again, isn't he?  Poor Nicole Oliver trying to keep up with that...

looks like someone's joined the herd.

discord is Q. thats why they had John DeLancie be discord's voice, which is brilliant by all means.
i hope he makes a come back some other time

Did you notice the Star Wars ending to the first episode of season two?

I haven't seen the show, but I have heard from an acquaintance that it is so.

It seemed almost like an intentional homage.  Although I dunno how else you would do such a scene.
