Title: Game of Thrones
Post by: evermore414 on March 06, 2011, 03:01:23 am
Is anyone else SUPER excited about the Game of Thrones show that's coming out in April?  These books have always been at the top of my all time favorites and I think if anyone can do them justice it's HBO.  If you haven't seen anything about it here is a short trailer.

)

And if you want to know more here is an extended trailer that also gives a really good explanation of what the show is about from the actors and creators.

On a related note, has anyone thought about adding a Media section here?  I'd be interested to see what shows, movies, music, etc. that other people here are excited about.

I'm looking forward to check this out, not sure if I want to read the books first though.

I you should read the book first. When you're reading a book you can fantasize about things : how people, buildings look.
If I saw this trailer without the title, I wouldn't recognize Game of Thrones.
I thought that Ned Stark was thinner, King's Landing was sunnier etc.

Can't wait.  Casting looks solid and the same for the production values.  I haven't read the books myself, but my brother has and told me a little about it.

Looks good.

HBO released the first 14 minutes of the first episode of Game of Thrones the other day.  Everything looks amazing!  It was so great it seemed way shorter than fourteen minutes, I can't wait for the whole episode now.  Here is a link for the preview.

I highly recommend the books, they have a lot of unique elements that make them very enjoyable.  Here are some of the reasons I really loved them.

Each chapter is told from a certain characters perspective so you get to see the story unfold through different eyes and you end up with a large number of favorite characters.

There are really no clear cut good guys and bad guys.  The characters are more realistic with their own goals and ambitions and these often come into conflict with other characters.

They are fantasy books but the fantasy aspect is very muted so I think people that don't normally enjoy fantasy books can still really get into them.  For the majority of the population magic is the stuff of myth and legends and most people are skeptical of such things.

These are not fantasy books for kids.  They are dark and gritty with sex and violence and the characters that inhabit them are not safe.  Characters you like do and will die.

"There are really no clear cut good guys and bad guys"

But there are characters you will start to hate with a passion.
I mean almost as if they were real people.
I seriously despise Catelyn.
Can't even write what I think of the [coitus]ing [dog of the female persuasion].
Great characters.

Wow, I just watched the Making Game of Thrones video.  I'm totally convinced that this will be THE best show of 2011.  Everything looks absolutely gorgeous, actors are all top notch, it actually feels like I'm watching the books unfold.  If you have HBO you have to watch this, if you don't have HBO consider getting it.  I say this purely out of greed because the higher their ratings the more seasons/books I get to see!   ;D

Here is the link if you are interested in watching it.

This weekend is a free HBO weekend.  So even if you don't normally get HBO you can still tune in and enjoy the first episode at least!

Haven't read any of the books, so I'm only vaguely aware that it's some fantasy series or something.

Watched it last nite at my dads, first episode was excellent though I still wish they'd bring back HBO Rome.

I loved last night's episode as well.  It looked even more amazing than I'd hoped it would.  Normally I despise book adaptations to movies or especially to TV.  They just never do the original justice but I really don't even have anything to nitpick about Game of Thrones.  I hope everyone that watched sticks with it because as good as last night was, it just gets better.  I've heard it really takes off at episodes 5 and 6.

The books, and the show as well has a very large cast of characters.  As a big fan of the books I knew immediately who everyone was but I wonder if it was difficult for anyone who had not read the books to keep up with who was who?

I'm pretty quick with that sort of thing, my dad needs a bit of explaining from time to time though.
also I guessed right away that the queen and brother were fucking, I totally called that before the kid saw them. : PHBO/Showcase really do make the best TV shows, Tim Van Patten as director of the first episode was a good omen right from the get go.

Game of Thrones has already been renewed for a second season!  Looks like it had some pretty good ratings.  4.2 million viewers for the first night, that includes all airings.  Hopefully viewership will continue to climb and we can see all of the books adapted!

I watched the first two episodes and it was even better than I had anticipated. I recommend the show to everyone.

The ending of season two was spectacular.

With the White Walkers coming to invade the wall and all to the south, a king having his army thwarted at King's Landing, and a visit to the King beyond the Wall
, I just can't wait for what's coming next.

The second to last episode of season 3 was one of the most brutal things I've ever seen on TV. I'm so pumped for season 4 to pick up this spring.
