Comic Book Movies https://elementscommunity.org/forum/index.php?topic=27409.msg348513#msg348513

I'm really good at growing facial hair.  I had the lite beard going on for Thor and of course I've done the Woliverine sideburns before.  Speaking of, the Wolverine Origins movie was zanzing awesome, I am so looking forward to the next one where he trains in Japan and please please let them make a Wolverine vs Omega Red cold war era movie.

Anyways, which comic book movies were your favourites, and which are you most looking forward to?  Also, let us reason together. It would be a regrettable waste, it would be nothing short of madness, if we were not to include Graphic Novels in the discussion.

Great topic!

I don't think that comics translate very well to movies.  It is such a different medium that it just doesn't work the same way.  However, that is probably a discussion for another day!  I am mostly just happy that there are good movies (sometimes...) being made out of my favourite comic book characters and stories.

Watchmen is without a doubt my favourite graphic novel (We3 comes close) and the movie didn't really let me down.  In fact, I think the change of ending was something that worked really well.

I also do not see how any comic book movie discussion can ignore Nolan and his Batman movies!  Brilliant stuff and I am really looking forward to the next one.

How about some great casting in these movies?  Robert Downey Jr. as Stark in Iron Man is just about as perfect a bit of casting as I have ever seen.  Apart from being a good actor he was built for the role and the cynic in me wants to suggest that his mi-spent youth was part of his method acting technique to prepare for the hard drinking playboy that is Tony Stark!

Once again, great topic!  I am not going to yadda yadda on too much now but I like where this is going :)
It is too late to apologise.  I have already forgiven you.

Sin City is my favorite comic book movie, hands down! I could watch that movie a million times, it was just so freaking well done. Shame that it went to Robert Rodriguez's head, though.

And Bootsza speaks truth about Iron Man and Batman Begins!

Men in Black. (Didn't know it was a comic book movie? Surprise :) ) Yeah, it's a silly action flick, but it's a really fun silly action flick. Great summer movie.

I wish I could say A History of Violence, but the weird ending and that terrible child actress they got to play the daughter ruined it for me.

If Transmetropolitan or Preacher ever makes it to film somehow, I will be one of those nerds waiting in line in costume at 11:00 PM Thursday night. Mark my words.

True,  Iron Man and Batman Begins is pretty brilliant, I don't think as highly of the dark knight however, I prefered Begins, by far! Great movies tho, I can't argue. And Christian Bale is somewhat good casting though he can't carry face expressions!

He doesn't need to, he's Batman.

After the success of Sin City, instead of going straight into Sin City 2 and 3 (which would've been guaranteed hits if they were even half the quality of the first one), he immediately charged into a bunch of pet projects. Only a few of these actually got finished, only one made any money, and he got himself a nasty reputation with studios for being a jerk (e.g., he was all set for preproduction on his Barbarella and Red Sonja pitches until he refused to let anyone but his then-girlfriend Rose McGowan star in BOTH of them).

I was pretty happy with First Class too! (I agree that they could've done better casting Emma Frost.)

If you're a comic book fan, you need to be able to let go of canon beyond "Prof X founded the X-Men" and "Xavier and Magneto have a weird relationship" -- because those are about the only two pieces left.
There's some really atrocious dialogue and a few awful bits of bad plotting*, but it's still a fun movie and an interesting take on the story. I felt like it was worth my $10.
And it's a MUST SEE if you like Magneto.

* Explanation (SPOILERS OBVIOUSLY)
Black man dies first.
Black-haired "ethnic" girl turns evil first.
Nobody other than Xavier, Magneto, Mystique, and Shaw really matter to the movie -- they could've put anybody on the team.

But I didnt think that Banshee and uhm..the torsoguy (sorry, just woke up) joined before like another 10years, referring to comic and sidecomics.
I haven't really read it all, but I've got the last 40year of x'men comics laying around on my pc.

They really picked from all over the mythology:

Beast was on the original team. Banshee and Havok date back to the 2nd formation of the team in the 60s (Giant-Size X-Men #1, and Banshee wasn't a teenager, and Havok wasn't military or a criminal). Darwin and Angel are from only a year or so ago. Mystique has always been a villain, occasionally part of a team but usually independent and never associated with Xavier or Magneto in any way. Emma Frost and Sebastian Shaw worked together as bad guys for a very long time, although she never worked for Magneto and actually joined the X-Men several years ago. Riptide (the bad guy who made tornadoes) is a very random choice from a C-List bad guy team. Moira MacTaggart was originally a Scottish geneticist who made the discoveries and theories that the movie credits to Xavier.
