I couldn't agree less with Dm and Root.

Since when is PvP vastly different from PvE? Are there different cards or more synergies? The ONLY difference between PvP and PvE is the thing that you play against a human. How could not having trophies demonstrate that you are not a good deckbuilder, or not a good player? Since when is that a rule?

"Sure. Continue using your decks full of cards that are pretty much always banned in any PvP event and using that deck you stole off forum to farm whatever Arena level it is, thinking that's similar to PvP experience, without ever having to analyze meta or deckbuild with restrictions...

In a much easier example, here's how much PvE and PvP differs:

That Brave Malignant Ball Deck with an absurd win ratio against FG.
It wouldn't work against a human player one out of a hundred.

Those shards in almost all of your farming decks.
99% of the time, they're banned.

I build all my decks alone and the only shard I use is SoSe. I don't see your point. Sure, I built some decks with other shards long ago, but I haven't really used them, I just posted them on the forum and tested them if the community asked for it. The only time I copied decks from the community was in my days of farming FG, but I guess everyone did the same as I did.

But I don't see you on the sign-up list...

Believe me or not, the only reason I didn't join that event is that I'm going to leave on a vacation soon enough and I won't have time for so many duels and I didn't want to risk to disrupt the event by leaving in the middle of it. I really considered joining it.

And if you want to say something about me joining mafia, that takes only about 2 minutes to read the replies and vote or use abilities. And about BL/CL, I find it too hard to find opponents, I even got banned a season for this.


To sum up, I just want to say that not joining tournaments or big events doesn't mean me or dragtom don't have experience, it just means we are busy.

The fact you are part of a ridiculously small minority, yes! Given that you are the exception we should definitely base everyone off you, and not of the vast majority of the forums! This is such a good idea.

Do completely ignore the part about analyzing meta! Do completely ignore the part about banned cards! Do ignore rulesets!

I'm setting this topic on ignore now. Sorry for the extreme sarcasm, but saying "PvP is the same as PvE" is just borderline absurd. Why, if this were the case, I'd just try and change Weekly Tournaments into a massive PvE event where people with the most wins against a determined AI is the champion. It's the same after all.

You definitely have experience.
But please don't try to pass off your PvE experience as PvP experience.
Constructing a random deck effective against an AI is completely different than constructing a deck under specific rules and conditions.

I think anyone who wants to continue this topic can move it to a new thread, perhaps in the General Discussion section. For the purposes of this thread, however, Submachine has already stated that he wants to keep mentor applications as open as possible. As a decision has been made, fruitlessly repeating the same disagreements will only be counterproductive.

For example, I could claim that most of the community would disagree with you, iancudorinmarian, in that while some adept PvP deck-builders may have valid reasons for not participating in organized PvP, it's not irrational to base a ranking off their PvP-related forum awards and distinctions. But the value would be completely lost, as Submachine has stated that even if the claim were true, he has his reasons for not restricting the mentor selection process.

I know you probably won't see this reply. So, you're telling me the vast majority of the community built it's own FG grinders? Give me a break, that's the biggest lie ever. It's quite the opposite! Why don't we have thousands of FG grinders? Just because they chose not to share them?

I NEVER said PvP TOURNAMENTS are the same as NORMAL PvP. I said that NORMAL PvP is mostly the same as PvE, just the same decks over and over again.

And one last thing: Just because I don't play PvP and tournaments very often you have no right to assume that I have no PvP experience and/or deckbuilding experience. I used to join tournaments some time ago, I didn't say I never joined a tournament, I just don't have the time lately.

Anyway, I'm not going to argue with you anymore since there's no point in it, we just have different opinions and that's ok.

If the beginner wants to play Pve they choose a mentor who is good at that, if a player wants to play PvP they choose a mentor who is good at that. I can't see how this discussion could make the beginners learn more. If a beginner ask things 1 mentor don't know that mentor could simply redirect it to another who is more proficient in that area.

I was about to update Joey's status when I thought about we should upgrade our basic mentor tables with a short introduction part per each mentor. There we could mention things like spoken languages and it would also make more difference between mentors.
