So I thought I’d share my view of how elements exists as a world. Also after writing this I realized the flow is kind of choppy so excuse me for that; it works better in my head. Anyways, here’s how I view it.
The world of Elements is ruled by the 12 “True” gods. These gods are the source of everything in the universe which is made by quanta. Elementals are people born with a mark that shows they have a particularly strong tie to one element and thus they are able to tap into the true gods’ powers and use quanta. When they reach a certain age they go forth to become more powerful. When two elementals battle they call for creatures, spells, and magical objects pulled from the mind and given from through manipulation of quanta and use of voice. Creatures are beings that have become specially attuned to the elemental forces of the world that willingly do battle for the elementals. Spells are either magical potions the elemental has crafted and through magic brings to the battle, or usage of quanta and the nature of each element to alter reality. Likewise, weapons and magical objects can be conjured through usage of enough quanta. Elementals each have hidden caches where they keep these potions and weapons until they are needed; this is also where they store electrum, the currency of this world. “Cards” are made by the elementals to focus their thoughts. Studying cards allows them to evoke the “cards” in battle. They are made from expensive materials and inks that cost large amounts of electrum. For even more electrum elementals can prepare special rituals to increase the power of their spells, gear, and creatures. Pillars are not physical pillars, though appear so on these “cards”. In fact, pillars are focuses of thought that elementals can materialize to focus their connections to the “True” gods. Fire represents rage, Aether wisdom, and etc. Pulling on these pillars of thought, the elementals pull for their creatures, spells, and gear to do battle with each other for glory and electrum. Some become so powerful that they challenge the true gods. Should they win, or at least impress the god, they gain part of the gods’ power and become false gods. False gods become kings and warlords of the planet, although some become hermits hiding from the world. The false gods and other rulers of the land tend to remain at peace through the actions of the Oracle. Many people visit their own personal shrines to the oracle every day hoping to receive his blessings. The Oracle himself lives far of in the northern regions of the world with the Nymphs whom he occasionally allows to travel with the luckier elementals. Occasionally a new creature will be discovered, a new spell learned by an ancient elemental, or an old artifact found by an elemental discovering the world. These quickly become new “cards” that are quickly found and taken from others until a major card crafter locates one and mass produces it. Finally, some elementals wish to change their marks and become disciples of a different element. The do so by undergoing a metamorphoses that can be achieved through heavy intense focus on one of the mental pillars until the god of that element grants them a new mark.
That’s it I think. That is how elements works for me as a world, and I think I addressed everything that happens in the game. I hope you liked it, or at least didn’t hate it. I could also write my views on the individual monsters, if anyone likes.
