Also, maybe we should just call the ability Light, since it shows under the creature graphic in the game. Elite Fireflies have the "Fire" ability.
Sort of. Read the card text, and you will find that both Elite and regular Fireflies have an ability called "Bioluminescence". This is merely a cosmetic change to the card text of Elite Firefly that will clear up any confusion with the effect of Luciferine.

It's good because it allows you to have light quanta without pillars(towers)/light mark. I like to think it's like a somehow better, but more situational RoL.

The in development card Hope suddenly makes Luciferin/rase incredibly viable in my opinion. O_O (Shield, protects from 1 + N damage, N is the number of light producing creatures, 5 light cost) Skelly army turns into a wonderful shield.

Indeed. Skelly Army turns into a nice shield if you can keep them running properly :)

No, they already have the passive skill "immaterial". Good question though ;)
