to me this card is something that i really  hate seeing in my opponent's shield slot but i don't find effective enough to put in my own deck. If you have a couple boneyards, a bone shield, and an eclipse for example, playing against this gives you a cycle of damage, shields, and the eclipse adds a bonus. it seems more of a nuisance in some situations, but in others it can really screw you over

I use a mono life deck and at first just had the thorn carapace then I upgraded to a spine carapace. The first battle I played my opponent spammed parasites and poisoned all of my creatures. After that I sold it and went back to my old shield.

Hi people and creatures,

I'm wondering if we can get some clear mechanics defined on this/these cards.

If it's posted somewhere else please reply with a link.

- It seems this shield doesn't affect some cards.  It doesn't infect cards like ray of light that are 1/1.
Is that because of it having 1 attack or 1 hp?

If anyone can clarify it would be valuable information.

Many thanks,

-KP

The upgraded version does not affect creatures with 1 attack, because it blocks 1 damage.  Since only attacking creatures are affected, this means all creatures with 1 or 0 attack can not be poisoned by the shield.

Merged this thread with the thorn carapace thread.  I think that's okay.  Sorry if it isn't.

Good sheild, but the upgraded version wont let Ray of Light attack, well, then you can't destroy a hope shield neither the Ray of Lights.

I dont know whether it was already mentioned, but 75%!!!
Its like with the Dusk I started counting and its always about 60-70% with the Dusk. The Dusk should has 50%...
In true I was only able to see it one time how a monster didnt get poisoned and I played the first hours with a FFQ deck when I was new. I mean its really weird that each attack all my creatures (mostly about 20 creautures) get poisoned. I would claim its rather 99+% than 75%. At least for me its a miracle to see my creatures not getting poisoned or poisoned again(to 2,3,4,.. poison dmg).
How are your experience?

i hate playing agaist this shield! it it better then the fireshield, i would say its one of the best shields in the game, since 1 posion - 1 attack- and that can stack up.... thats not good xD :P

Personally, I actually prefer having this card un-upgraded. That way, I can get rid of even the small annoyances. I accept that this probably isn't a view that's reflected worldwide, but...meh. I'm not normal. What do I care what most people think? XD

Actually, the unupgraded one is used in all stall decks that use this card anyway. It really only cannot kill (Over, many many, far too many turns) Crysaora and Devourer (probably more that arent coming to mind)

Well, it's hard to kill sapphire chargers and flying titans.

Otyughs and some growth creatures also start at 0 attack, but they are almost useless if you don't use their abilities.
May the force of the D4HK side be with U ^_^

Yup.  A protected one of these bad boys along with some serious healing (miracles, bonds, shards, vamps, etc.) can hurt hard.

I made a pvp deck for fun that focused on getting out a protected spine carapace, then antimattering the biggest enemy creatures and growing a quintessed momentumed destroyer for killing damage. When it works, it's a beautiful thing. Eternity thwarts deck out, and when it works it's REALLY annoying. Almost every enemy I played against rage-quit as soon as I played miracle, animattered their obsidian liquid shadowed dragon, or started growing a completely untouchable destroyer. It's a beautiful thing.

Fire shield is better against some decks, such as growth decks. Which is to say, if you play a protected fire shield turn 1, then you can kill any unupgraded growth creature (I believe any that start with hp >1 don't gain hp upon growing). Spine carapace takes many turns to take down growth creatures (3-4 turns just to overcome the growth, and then to slowly bring them down), but fire shield takes them out before they can grow at all.

Spine carapace is ridiculously overpowered on paper, but in practice I'm often able to win just in the nick of time before my creatures all die.
