For now I think it's okay to have it placed on next creature slot. If/when positioning is implemented it can be changed to targeting.
Shouldn't airborne creatures be immune? They can fly to avoid getting hurt by the spikes.

I considered making airborne creatures immune, but that's like having Earth be immune to Lightning or Water be immune to Cremation. Thematically accurate, but unbalanced.
