Legend of the Grand Shard Golem
Original idea by: majofa   |   Developed by: majofa  |   Organized by: Submachine

It is said that the Grand Shard Golem sleeps in the tower in the center of The Land of Elements. Legends declare that whoever awoke the Golem would be granted unlimited power to rule the world...
Collect Shards and be the first summon the Grand Shard Golem and rule the world!!!

1. HOW TO SIGN UP?
Anyone with a forum and a chat account can sign up for this event. Start by reading the rules very carefully. Then sign up by posting on a separate sign up topic with your chosen starting point. If you cannot find a sign up topic, or if it is locked, this event is not currently active, and you will have to wait for it to restart.

There is no maximum amount of participants in this event.

2. GETTING READY
When you sign up, PM the organizer with the point on the board you wish to start (must be on the border). You can also continue those players' progress who has quit.

3. GAME PLAY
Every 2 days you get 2 actions (PM them to the organizer). These can be any of the following:
 - Move vertically
 - Move horizontally
 - Search a square
 - Harvest a Shard
 - Attack another player (being attacked also consumes 1 of your action points)
 - Use a Shard (some shards don't require action points to be used)
 - Set a new Base location (must always be along the edge)
 - If you do not send in an action, you'll automatically move 2 spaces back towards your base (You cannot be attacked while at your base). You can also enable auto-stepping, that enables you a chain of actions. To do this, you have to PM the organizer.

You can move twice, move and search, move and harvest, search and harvest, or any other combination you can think of (You can't attack twice).
Conditional actions are allowed. (Example: You can search, then harvest if a Shard Vein is found.) You can't move onto another player's base.

If you search a square, it may uncover a Shard Vein with a random type and amount. Each element has several places on the board where you can find them (they are not bunched up).

After a Shard Vein has been found, you can use an action to harvest the corresponding Shard. You can have multiple Shards per element in your inventory/base, but you can only own 1 shard from 1 vein. When you find your 2nd Shard, you are automatically warped back to your base.

Players normal viewing range are 2 squares around their player icon. If another player has searched and found a Shard Vein, you will be able to see it he is in your viewing range.
When a player searches and finds a Shard Vein or is adjacent to a player who found another, they will receive a PM from the organizer revealing the location (only to that person). (Destroyed veins are visible to everyone, but their type is not revealed and will appear on the map as :darkness)
It's a good idea to keep track for yourself where the veins are.

When a player has all 11 Shards, they'll need to return to their base and move all 11 Shards to their inventory. During this time, the only mark they can use is Earth, in addition, they can also use Earth cards and the Shard of Integrity. However, they won't be able to use any of the Shards' out-of-battle abilities.
Players won't know what Shards other players have unless they're battling, then they'll only know what Shards they're carrying. When a player has all 11 Shards, everyone will know they do.

When you attack a player they have three options:
1) Allow you to take one Shard of your choice from them.
2) If they have an unused :aether Shard, they may warp back to their base.
3) Defend against you.
 - If the attacking wins, they can take up to 2 Shards from the losing player.
 - If the defending player wins, they can take 1 Shard from the losing player.
(The losing player 'dies' and will resume at his own will at either their base or one of the corners. Shards not taken by the player that killed them remain in their inventory.)
If you are attacked, your actions are cancelled.
Spoiler for attacking:
When sending in your actions you'll state who you are attacking. If he is in your viewing range at the beginning of the turn you attack them during the current turn. If you end the turn adjacent or in the same square as them, you'll attack them the following turn.

If two players attack each other, they are both counted as 'attackers'.

If two players both attack a 3rd player, the closer player will get priority.. and the other player will attack on the following turn. If they're the same distance away, they will fight each other first, then the 3rd player on the following day.

If a player with all shards is forced to battle on consecutive turns, they will move one square closer to the middle for each consecutive battle won.

At any time you may return to your base and drop off any Shards you are carrying. They will be safe there and cannot be stolen.

Each Shard gives a small bonus if it's in your inventory/base:
:aether (2 Action Points) (One time use) Allows you to warp back to your base one time.
:air (1 Action Point) Allows you to move any player's base to any spot on the board. (You must be adjacent to their base to do so.)
:darkness Allows you to take an additional Shard from your opponent.
:death If you kill your opponent, they remain dead for their next 2 actions.
:entropy (1 Action Point) Allows you to swap a Shard with an opponent in your view range. (If they attack you, you can activate it for free before you battle). The player who activates this skill chooses which shard he wants to swap. He will get a random shard from the opponent.
:fire (2 Action Points) Sacrifice this shard to destroy a Shard Vein. (All adjacent Shard Veins are also destroyed)
:gravity (Once per turn) Allows you to move one space towards your base without using an Action Point.
:life Gain 2 extra Action Points for the turn after you die.
:light All squares 2 spaces around your base become visible only to you.
:time You may use +1 Action Point instead of the normal amount if your actions are all different.
:water Shows undiscovered (to you .. ) Shard Veins that match those in your inventory/base, 3 spaces around your player icon.

4. MATCHES
Matches are best-of-5.

- You can only use the Mark and Shards that correspond to the Shards your inventory.
- You can only use cards that correspond to the Shards in your base.
- The defender may use up to 4 upgraded cards.
- No 'Other' cards.
(That means you need to always have 1 in each. No one can be attacked unless they have at least 2 shards).

It's a good idea to either record the matches, or take screenshots as proof, in case something weird, like a desync error, happens. Remember, a player who gets caught cheating, will be permanently banned from all Elements community PvP events, so please play fair.

5. AFTER DUELS
All players must submit their results in the 'Battle Results' thread. Decks must be PM'd to the organizer. You can reveal Shards of your opponents (truthfully or untruthfully) in the Battle Thread. In fact, you can reveal whatever you want - truth/lie - if you feel it'll help your chances.

6. WINNER
The winner is the first to reach the center of the map with 11 Shards and summon the Grand Shard Golem!!
The winner is also automatically qualified for the PvP World Championships - 2013.

Some questions:

Q1. Will the base location of all players be shown on the map, i.e. will we all know where everyone "lives" or only those we visit, i.e. get within visibility range ?

Further questions (Q2 to Q6) are embedded inside the following quote, highlighted by yellow text color.

After a Shard Vein has been found, you can use an action to harvest a corresponding Shard. You may only have one type of each Shard in your inventory/base. When you find your 2nd Shard, you are automatically warped back to your base.

Q2. Don't understand this paragraph above (mostly the underlined part is problematic). I need to collect all 11 types of shards. How is that possible if I only can have 1 type ? Or do you mean only 1 copy of each different type ? I.e. if I have an  :aether shard then I find another  :aether when exploring I am not allowed to harvest it ? But the last sentence says if I find a 2nd I get warped back. So that implies I can only carry 1 -- confused.

Q3. When the player carries all 11 shards, can they use all elements in battle ?

When you attack a player they have three options:
1) Allow you to take one Shard of your choice from them.

Q4. from their inventory (which maybe limited to 1) or from the base ?

At any time you may return to your base and drop off any Shards you are carrying. They will be safe there and cannot be stolen.

Q5. so if I lose a battle shards in my base cannot be taken ?

- You can only use the Mark and Shards that correspond to the Shards your inventory.
- You can only use cards that correspond to the Shards in your base.
- The defender may use up to 4 upgraded cards.
- No 'Other' cards.
(That means you need to always have 1 in each. No one can be attacked unless they have at least 2 shards).

Q6. So if I keep all my shards in inventory and none in base, I cannot be attacked ?

- No 'Other' cards.
(That means you need to always have 1 in each. No one can be attacked unless they have at least 2 shards).

Q6. So if I keep all my shards in inventory and none in base, I cannot be attacked ?

1) Yes, all players base locations will be shown.

2) There are 11 shards you must collect: :aether :air :darkness :death :entropy :fire :gravity :life :light :time :water  (once you collect all those and return to your base, you will receive the 12th (:earth) shard. You must always have at least 1 shard in your inventory and at least 1 shard at your base, which is why when you have 2 shards you're warped back to your base (to leave a shard there).

3) Clarifying this rule a little..
'When a player has all 11 Shards, they'll need to return to their base and move all 11 Shards to their inventory. During this time, the only mark they can use is Earth, in addition, they can also use Earth cards and the Shard of Integrity. However, they won't be able to use any of the Shards' out-of-battle abilities.'
-changed to-
'When a player has all 11 Shards, they'll need to return to their base and move all 11 Shards to their inventory. Once all 11 Shards are in their inventory, the only mark they can use is Earth, in addition, they can also use Earth cards and the Shard of Integrity. This player may also use any other element in their deck. They won't be able to use any of the Shards' out-of-battle abilities. (Also, their base cannot be moved using the Air shard)

4) Shards can only be taken from a player's inventory. Shards in your base are safe.

5) Shards in your base are safe.

6) (That means you need to always have 1 in each. No one can be attacked unless they have at least 2 shards).
^ The only time the 2nd sentence applies is at the beginning of the game.

(hope that clarifies a little)

Thanks for the answers, I think I get it now. But I see one inconsistency / contradiction:

If you only carry max 1 shard with you (warp back to base to leave one there when found a 2nd one), AND your shards in your base are safe, then how can you lose 2 shards when you lose a battle ?

You warp back when you have 2 total shards (near the beginning of the game).

If you get attacked and only have 1 shard in your inventory, your opponent will only take 1 shard from you.

Can an opponent attack me if I have 2 shards, but all of them are in my base and I have none in my inventory, or is it scripted somewhere that I must have at least 1 shard with me all the time if I have one? And if I have only 1 shard, can I leave it in my base or I must carry that with me too?
And we keep driving into the night
It's a late goodbye, such a late goodbye...

The event starts (you have 0 shards)

You walk around and, while searching, find a Shard Vein .. you harvest the shard (you have 1 shard)

You walk around some more and search and find another Shard Vein .. you harvest the shard (you have 2 shards) .. you are warped back to your base

From this point on, you must have at least 1 shard in your base and at least 1 shard in your inventory

-
If you are defeated in a battle and it reduces your inventory to zero, you cannot be attacked until you harvest another shard

-----
The only times the rules for this change is when you have all 11 shards and you move them all to your inventory...

Can Search / Harvest actions be issued to adjacent (visible to you) tiles, or only to the tile you are standing on ?

Rules are too complicated.
This way it becomes less fun.

I don't think they're too bad, there's just a lot of things you can do.

(basically, you're moving along the board collecting shards by either harvesting them or stealing them from opponents)
Deckbuilding is based on the shards in your inventory/base.
