I've done the fresh account thing. It's ok, but not if you lose rare cards.
Have you visited the Deck Help subforum? They've got decks upon decks and meta-decks and deck compilations and stat sheets and spreadsheets and loads of other things that are way helpful with building a deck.

Tournaments are held every Saturday and I believe their time is incrementally getting later and later so there should come a time when whatever routine you have can accept an hour or two of games. I've never participated, but good luck nonetheless to you!
