Spoiler for Forum Brawl:

ART BY TOOSCHEE | LOGO BY SCAREDGIRL

What is Forum Brawl?
Forum Brawl is a forum event where up to 12 teams show their awesomeness against each other in different tasks that happen all around the forums.

Teams will have 7 members, each with their own special role. Players go head-to-head against players from other teams by doing tasks based on what their role is. The community decides which players perform the best, and points are awarded accordingly. After 6 rounds of brawling, the team with the highest score will be the winner.

What makes Forum Brawl different from most other events is the fact that there is no PvP in Forum Brawl. The event is all about creativity, artistic skills, and most importantly, forum awesomeness.

Brawlmaster
We will have two Brawlmasters who are responsible for Forum Brawl event. They will have an active role in designing the tasks for each round, and will handle all the day-to-day actions like posting new topics or replying to questions about the event. Brawlmasters will be appointed by the Elements Council. This time around they are Naesala and ARTHANASIOS.

How to Join Forum Brawl
Forum Brawl will usually happen right after War event ends. Once the sign-up topic is posted and the Bosses are made public, any community members may join the event.

Each player will create a short application in their own thread for the generals to later vote on. An example is given below. Players should list their top 3 favorite teams, top three favored roles, time zone, and availability. Team names will be made available before the application phase; these names will be chosen by the bosses and have some impact on the tasks. Additionally, members should, if able, create a short portfolio of their works via links to show their ability and should write a small paragraph on why they would be good members for Brawl. Important things to consider are dependability, availability, and skill. Once all applications are in, players will be divided, based on their preferred roles, into the various roles so that the bosses can ensure they meet every role.

Building the Team
Bosses will have 50 initial points to be spent on their team members. They will bet with these points and will start Brawl with the remaining ones. They can not go into negative points. Bidding will occur in Google Docs that any member can see at any time. Bosses will be refunded a point bid on a player if they are on that players top three bosses. Refunded points do not count as "not going negative" for the purposes of bidding.
If two Bosses bet equally for a player, the player decides the team they will be in. A boss cannot bid on a player if he or she is already bidding the most on another player of the same role.

Spoiler for application example:
Brawl Application

Name: Chapuz
Favored Teams: Team Wombat, Team Lava Golem, Team Naesala
Favored Roles: Forum expert, Deck Builder, Artist
Timezone (GMT): GMT -5
Usually Online: 3-6 and midnight to 4
Portfolio: Forum Expert: http://elementscommunity.org/forum/elements-articles/read-this-first-elements-articles/
Deck Builder: http://elementscommunity.org/forum/deck-compilations/list-of-classic-deck-strategies-and-synergies/
Why I would make a good Brawl member: I would make a good Brawl member because my avatar is a doll. Who doesn't like dolls? Also I make OTK decks.

Roles
1. Boss
Each team will have a Boss whose main responsibility is to build the team. Boss will also participate in the event by dueling other Bosses in random tasks. Boss is different from other roles because you do not sign up to be a boss in the normal application phase. Masters of each element will first be given the opportunity to become a Boss. If fewer than six of the Masters are interested, there will be a public application thread for Bosses, and the Brawlmasters will select a number of applicants to bring the total number of bosses up to six. The event is not compulsory, so Masters should not be afraid to decline if they feel they do not have enough time or interest. Boss submissions will be standardized based on which type of role they are emulating each round.

2. Card Designer
Card Designers duel other Card Designers by producing a new card idea based on theme and restrictions posted each round.

3. Deckbuilder
Deckbuilders duel other Deckbuilders by building unique decks based on theme and restrictions posted each round.

4. Artist
Artists produce unique Elements related art. This category includes many visual mediums, so photography, film and drawings are permissible or can be required besides digital art.

5. Writer
Writers produce unique Elements related stories and poems.

6. Off-Topicker
Off-Topickers get tasks that are related to one of the section in Off-Topic Discussions. This role requires well-rounded skills in many different areas (or amazing Google/Wikipedia skills).

7. Forum Expert
Forum Experts work with many of the things that make the forums great that don't fit into above categories (Wiki, Tools, etc.).

Submission rules for each category may be altered each round based on the task.

Rounds
Forum Brawl has a total of 6 rounds, each lasting 7 days. A new round will start as soon as the last one ends. Tasks will be relatively simple so 7 days should be more than enough time to perform them. Overall workload of Forum Brawl will be much less than in events like War and Trials. The event lasts 7-8 weeks in total.

Scoring
Scoring will be based on community vote, team vote and bonus points given by the Expert Panel. Any team not submitting a legitimate submission for a category will receive zero points. Note: legitimate means that it must meet all the requirements of the round and be relevant and should show some effort. For example, an image of a grey square would not be legitimate for a round in which you must redraw Lava golem, or even moreso for writing an article about zanzarino. Voting for all three groups will use the following table:

Spoiler for Hidden:
Team VoteRound Xby
Boss******
Artist******
CD******
DB******
FE******
OT******

1. Community Vote
Each round, there will be a public thread on all submissions with them randomly ordered within their sections. Each non-Brawler will post their top pick for each category in this thread, up to two per category, and be required to discuss why they voted as they did. In the event of a tie, tied submissions will add their points together and divide evenly. Any extra points will be dropped. After 6 days, a Brawlmaster will post in the thread to notify that voting is over, but discussion may continue.

Round 3123568
Round 41346810
Round 513571012

2. Team Vote
The team vote will occur much the same as the community votes, and team votes will be added to community votes for the sake of placing and score. However, team votes will occur in private threads for each team. Additionally, Brawlers must use at least one of their votes on a different team. So, a brawler could just use one vote on another team, a vote on there team and a vote on another team, or two votes on different teams, but not just a vote for their own team. Brawlers may and are encouraged to post in the public thread with their opinions on the pieces. "Strategic" voting is discouraged. Participants are encouraged to vote each round in all categories, but not required.

3. Expert Panel
Both Brawlmasters pick their favorites in all 7 categories. Each submission that is picked by one of the members of the Expert Panel, scores an additional 2 points. One submission can receive bonus points from more than one Expert Panel member.
Scoring will happen during rounds so that the scoring of round 1 will happens during round 2, scoring of round 2 happens during round 3, etc. Scoring will be shown in Google Docs to the public at any given time.

Challenges
Each player may once, at any time, challenge another in the same role to a contest they choose in their field. They both have one week to complete the assignment. The community votes on the challenges the next voting phase. The winner gains 8 points and the loser loses 8 points. The challengee may decline the challenge, in which case they forfeit 5 points. Teams may also issue combo challenges, in which they issue a single task that is appropriate for multiple team members (such as a challenge to make a card for an Artist-Card Design combo). For these, the gains can be multiplied up to the number of participants. So, a two-combo task can award 16 to the winner and subtracts 16 from the loser. A forfeit would still subtract 5 points. The multiple is chosen by the challenging team, and can be no more than equal to the number of people on each side (A 3 vs 3 challenge may multiply up to 3).

Challenges are declared by PMing the Brawlmasters but not the challengee. Challengers will title the PM [Challenge] [Challenging team] within the first three days of a round. If the Brawlmasters approve the challenge, they will send the approval to the challenger and challengee. Both players must submit their finished work by the end of the next round. Submissions will be voted on in the next voting round. If the challengee does not make a submission, they will have been considered as declining.

Spoiler for example:
Artist A PMs the Brawlmasters he wants to challenge Artist B: They must make a drawing representing each others' Deckbuilders ideas from last round.
Before the next round starts, the Brawlmasters send a PM to both players that they accepted it and how it must be submitted. During that round, both players (or any team member) submit by PM the challenge submission with the title [Challenge] [Team A] [Team B]. The challenge submissions is revealed in the next voting phase. The one that takes more votes steals 8 points from the other team.

Wagers
Each player can, up to 2 times, bet against another in the same role for any amount of points between 6 and 15. If the wager is accepted, the players bid the amount points decided by the wagerer. If it is declined, that player loses 5 points.
The wager consists of getting more votes than the other player in the current round.

Wagers are declared by PMing the Brawlmasters and the target of the wager with the title [Wager] [Wagering Team] within the first three days of a new round. If there is no response by the time the new round begins, it is considered as a declined wager.

Timed Face offs
Once per week, at a predetermined time, one of the Brawlmasters will enter chat and announce a challenge which is to be completed within a specific timeframe. Bosses will be spoken to before the event to gather information on what time is optimal to host these face offs. Face offs may be worth immediate points or they may be creating something to be voted upon during the next voting round, or they may be voted upon by the Brawlmasters only.

Event Cards
Each round of Forum Brawl will be accompanied by an Event Card that alters the rules or adds additional options to the round. Rules for each of these will be explained on the card and by the Brawlmasters.

Winner
The team that has the most points after all 6 rounds, wins the event. All members of the team will receive a cool forum award icon and tons of respect. In the event of a tie, there will be a sudden death challenge for the bosses to determine the winner.

We appreciate feedback! If you have any ideas on how to improve the rules, please post it in the Suggestions and Feedback topic. Thank you.

Welcome,

i'm-awesome!-i-have-12-of-every-card! is a good goal to have on the return.
This is one of those things where people say, "I wish I knew this sooner". I can also add, at least with some of the information, I wish I had read this before I figured it out for myself. I do feel good that I figured some of it out already, and that I was on the right track, but reading it sooner would've saved a lot of time.  :D For "multi-tasking", someone could add pod-casts. Sometimes I have to rewind to make sure I heard something right, but it's still an option.

Yeah, already discovered this, too. :P
