Title: Hello Elements!
Post by: Phestus on November 03, 2013, 02:35:28 am
Hi, I am Phestus, and Im a CCG addict.  All the way back to MTC cardboard in 1995, up through and including all of them on Kongregate.

I just started elements again.  I played it when it first came out, and it seemed too simple.  I should've stuck with it, seems like a ton of depth after a second look.

I am a little frustrated with the jump from Ai3 farming to HB/arena farming, but am slowly grinding through it.  I now have 5 upped cards, and am working on 6 for the limitless speed OTK farmer.

Any advice?

keep grinding, dear. You'll get there.

Oh and if you have time check out PvP or Forum games. they're fun.

Thanks timetock!  I just started grinding bronze arena today with any success.  I won 2 of the special spins in a row without a loss!

Here is the deck I ran, it also has about a 50/50 win rate against HBs:

Not sure I can figure out how to post the deck any other way than that yet (maybe I can't yet either as a new forum user).  The gist of the deck utilizes my best cards:  2 upped hourglasses, 2 supernovas, and my rare control weapons with crusader and flying weapon to use more than one.

It may not be the best deck, but in 3 hours of play it won me a druid staff, a pharoah, and an uppsed Arsenic.  Im slowly working on grinding the other 4 upped cards for a limitless speed FG farmer, still need around 6k.

oh I forgot silver is a good place for money. Maybe even more so than FGs.

LS is a good deck to start with to grind False Gods though, especially since it's shardless. However once you get enough electum I suggest you work your way towards PDials. It's probably the most gold-efficient deck ever.

I just had a really frustrating night.  Played about 20 HB matches, won about 50% of them.

Didnt win a single card, made less than 50 electrum total.

What a waste of 4 hours.  The pillar distribution in my opening hand was downright awful.  I either got 1 pillar, or 6 in the first 10 cards, nearly every game.

So frustrating, and such a waste of time.

I really hate this game right now, and I remember full well now why I quit last time.

this is why people don't farm HB's.

take a break, come back. Don't worry about; even I ragequit the game.

I cant seem to make any money anywhere besides HBs, and they are 100 percent dependent on getting a lucky spin.

It would take me weeks to grind out 10 upgraded cards on Ai3.

There NEEDS to be a step between Ai3 (pvp level 0) and FGs (level 80) that isnt so ridiculous (level 60 HBs).  I have hopes for 1.4, but it remains to be seen what rewards the levels will give.

Also, the electrum rewards for bronze league are absolutely stupefyingly horrid.  Even winning 90% of the time, I get nothing but rares I need to keep, and once again make less than 100 electrum per night.

Add in a FG oracle match, having to buy cards for a new opponent everyday, and it is no wonder I havent upgraded a card with electrum in 5 days now of solid play.  Tuesday was my last upgrade, and since then I have won 1 upgraded rare from a FG win, and made less than 500 electrum.

I dont know what to do.

silver arena. mono :death rush should take down some of the weaker decks.

you can beat FGs using half-upped Limitless Speed, it's just lower winrate.

PvP 1 is a good place to earn money too (if you win of course).

A good strategy is just to play 3 games everyday: meet oracle everyday, beat the FG he tells you, then use the pet he gives you to gain a small advantage over silver arena. 3 games everyday is how I did it, anyways.

Thanks, I can try that out.  I am doing the FG every day, its just the other 3 hours that arent productive.  I can try Silver arena out.

I cant do a limitless speed deck yet, as I have upgraded the wrong cards first.  Even for silver.  Since I did the hourglasses first, I could run into 200 hp opponents that I cant kill without the uppped rage potions/dragon.

Oh well, live and learn.

I guess I just cant hang.  I got pounded in the arena all night, losing to shard decks over and over in silver.  I dropped down to bronze and fought 2 shard decks in a row there too, that promptly beat me down.  In 2 hours of arena, I never strung together more than 2 wins.

Then, I try HBs, lose 3 straight.  Then move to good old Ai3, finally getting frustrated after 2 hours there without winning a card and losing 2 straight to black hole decks in a row.

Haul for the 6th long night?  About 300 electrum in 5 hours, plus 2 common cards (blessing and a fire pillar).  I now have almost 900, in a 6 DAYS of playing multiple hours.

Its a little different when you win a decent card now and then.  But if you arent, and are getting hand after hand with all pillars or no pillars, it gets really frustrating.  Im getting nowhere, and am tired of fighting for hours for no rewards.  I really dont want to log in to fight 1 FG a day, but I really dont see any other options.

I think the arena needs a major overhaul.  If you have shards and a ton of upped cards, you need to be in gold.  Not hanging onto level 20 waiting to smash new players.  There also needs to be a step between Ai3 and HBs, instead of going from level 0 to level 60 ai opponents.  This is a major design flaw, and the rewards are terrible unless you get a lucky spin.

it IS getting overhaul. 1.4 update? read it. try it in the trainer. I don't really understand what's going on but it seems to make grinding a lot easier.

Also, Elements was always a half-passive game for the kinda-dedicated-people – like me! just 3 games a day.

People go on losing streaks. If you lose 3 games in a row, don't play. Wait another day.

My alt uses a classic grabbow to farm Bronze and Ai3 efficiently.

While you can farm silver and gold partially or even fully unupped it isn't the best idea as it depends on luck more than anything.

This is better than your deck for a few reasons. First of all, having more than 2 different weapons alone is a bad idea in a grinder. Secondly, while your deck is pretty cool it has relatively high cost creatures for a mostly unupped rainbow. The above deck has gotten 5-7ttw in its current form quite often. Yours is exceptionally heavy on Air, Water, and Time when it doesn't draw its SN's. Your problem isn't that Arena sets you up to lose, it is that your deck sets you up to lose versus Arena due to its lack of speed.

Here's the secret: Rares DON'T WIN THE GAME! You seem to be of the mindset that because shards are rares and you keep losing to them, you need more rares in your deck to beat them. This is a flawed mindset. Try the deck above, ups not required, versus Bronze and see how much better you do.

If you are doing your deck for fun that is fine but you shouldn't complain if fun interferes with efficiency.

Thank you TT for explaining it better than I can ever.

Thanks to both of you for the help.

Timetock, I have looked at the 1.4 update, and even played a couple of hours of the beta fights.  It is unclear to me how the mid-stages of the game are going to be done, but the noob areas look fine.  I know there will be a wider range of opponents to eliminate the huge jump from Ai3 to HBs, but I dont know if it will be more rewarding than simply farming Ai3s now.

Tribal, I have a couple of versions of 30-card rainbows I can import and have played (hence my choice of cards I have upgraded, 2 hourglasses and 2 SNs), but was actually using Immobow most of the time last night.  I switch decks daily after the FG/oracle clear-out, which won me an upped Feral Bond this morning, and tend to try out nearly anything I have cards for.   I had posted that deck earlier in the thread as the deck I had made for my first foray into bronze, and it did well, but as you said the CC is too high and it is very vulnerable to a little permanent control.  I dont have enough threats OR defense in it, which is a really bad combo for a control deck.  That being said, when I do establish control (usually through pulverizer and lobotomizer being out at the same time) and get a Druid out, it is a ton of fun to play.

I am trying to save for another upped card for the limitless speed OTK deck, but the going is very, very slow.  This morning I made a decision to build my own Ferox killer instead of buying the cards for one of the standard forum versions, just to save a bit.  It worked well, thanks to the forum and the great information it provided.  I will try and do this when I can to save a little more, rather than buying my way to a full card set at the expense of my OTK upgrades.

Here is what I ran against Ferox, would be interested to see how you guys would tweak it so I can get a little better handle on how to do this everyday to save a bit more using the 3 fights a day method:

I ended the game with 40 life (near where I was at when i played my first shield.  By the time my shields ran out, I had killed everything but a couple of Rays with the Otyughs, and had a Steam Golem up to 40ish power.  Never needed the Eternity, but it was close, as I had hourglasses a few times and didnt get the pulverizer going until pretty late.  He still had a Feral Bond at the end of the game.  I might add a steal or two in place of the pulverizer next time, as the Otyughs were just too nice to give up.

Thanks in advance
