Nope, no issues here. For most of those browser switches, a reload might have been enough.

High scores are kept on a different server than the game. Whenever you go to face the top50, the game first fetches the top50 list from the high score server, then picks an opponent from that list.
If something prevents you from getting a connection the high score server, you end up not finding an opponent.

If this is a temporary issue, reloading the page or loading up the trainer and checking the high scores there might work (reset the connection, sort of, similar to what you would do if you can't save).
Next step would be to wait a bit and then try again. The server might be overloaded, or there might be some unit on the way between you and the server that isn't feeling well.

If this isn't temporary, it's quite likely that something is blocking the connection.
If it's some type of content blocking that you have control over, disabling it should give you confirmation that that really is the issue, and you can then try and fix the set up.
If it's out of your hand, you're probably at work or in school and might be better off doing what you're supposed to do instead, so you don't end up unemployed or expelled. ;)

This happens to me off and on all the time.  I use Internet Explorer.  To be honest, telling people to ctrl+F5 and potentially lose their session (and possibly saved cards) is irresponsible.

Something clearly isn't working for a lot of people.  Please do something about it.

If it helps any, I had this happen tonight and had to go back to menu, where I got a "confirmed" message. Then I tried top50 again and had it hang again.

Irresponsible? That's a very harsh word to throw around, especially towards a forum staff member (and it is against the forum rules - read them). Offering a solution to reconnect to the game is hardly irresponsible. Rather, it's quite responsible for a member of our forum staff to try to help a player reconnect to the game. Irresponsibility would describe the person who continues to play the game while disconnected. It's not too much to ask someone to lose one game's worth of work to try to reconnect to the server.

You can also try to force a connection to the server by loading up the game or trainer in another window. As the game is loading, you will see a connection attempt in your live game window. It works nearly 100% of the time, so if a connection isn't made, it's probably not you, but the server.

Try doing a forced reload (ctrl+f5).

Please Note, when using the CTRL+F5 method this will reload the page and lose any progress you have unsaved.

When you use the Top50 matchup the Server has to find a matchup from the current Top50 scorers for this Week. There are various things that can screwup during this action and all sorts of environmental variables such as Internet pipelining, bandwidth lag, server load, cache expiry or cache faulting. Using Ctrl+F5 can eliminate one of the plausible issues being the cache on your end.

I'm sorry if you don't like the word, but if I lose a nice card because I followed the directions in this forum to solve this connectivity problem, I call that irresponsible. It's not a personal attack. I'm calling it what it is.  I'm not saying they did it on purpose, but I could also tell people to reformat their hard drive to solve their virus problems.  Not going over the potential consequences of that action would also be irresponsible.

I suppose I assumed people would be more worried about a flashing red sign saying "Disconnected, NOT saved, Progress lost!" than about not being able to find a top50 opponent.

Well, what else are you going to do, stare at your screen and will the disconnect button away? The only way to reconnect is to do what has already been suggested: stop what you are doing, click on the disconnect button and hope it reconnects. If it doesn't, then open another window and load the game or trainer, then click on the disconnected button again in your game window. If that doesn't work, keep trying. If it doesn't work after a while, it's safe to say that the server is down and you might have to deal with losing that one card you lost. It's not the only chance you will ever have to earn that card, anyway. Servers are not perfect - they go down sometimes. If that's not good enough for you, then that's not the developer's fault, nor is it the forum leadership's fault. We have offered every available reconnection method to you, yet you call it irresponsible. You lose ONE card? Get over it, reconnect, and keep playing.

I did not have such a sign on my screen. If you READ my post you would see I was getting a green "confirmed" message.

If I hadn't hit Ctrl-F5, I wouldn't have lost my progress!  But I came here to look for help with the situation and followed the advice given. Upon the following login, I was missing coins and cards.

Get it?

I've read all your post, and not one of them before the one above this said anything about you losing your progress.
If the game saved as it should, you shouldn't have lost any progress just because you reloaded.

I hadn't meant this to be about me.  All I was trying to say was that you should post a warning if you are going to suggest restarting the client. I wasn't trying to level an accusation at anyone or upset anyone.

That's right.  It shouldn't have.  It did.

I was very pissed off when I lost the one card I had won that day that I was happy about.  Maybe you didn't think people could lose a card from this suggestion.  Fair enough, now we all know.  Ctrl+F5 can make you lose your progress.  Use it as a last resort.
