Someone could explain me why malignant cell is not removed by flooding? https://elementscommunity.org/forum/index.php?topic=10430.msg127956#msg127956

As for topic.
Flooding text says:
"Drown (kill) any non-water and non-neutral creature in the top/bottom rows."

Now this thing cannot be considered neutral, since is an 1/1 capable of attacking and for sure isn't blue.
So why it's still happily watching me from the bottom of the pool? :D

Because then you could have artic dragons out, and fill both fields with malig cells so 14 die each turn and make your bone wall ridiculous. If you have a graveyard, then, well, JESUS

When the card was introduced , Malignant Cell belonged to death. But as a death card, Nightfall would work and this combo could be too powerful. So it became kind of "other" card.

Im fairly sure Malignant Cell have been a neutral creature since i started back in february. Flooding was all non-water at first and then it was added non-neutral just so the OP combo explained above wouldn't work.

Oh I want to see Cell as neutral standalone card that can actually be played from the deck. *drools*

Malignant Cell was originally called Cancer Cell. It was a Death creature, but Eclipse made it insanely powerful, so Zanz made it a neutral creature (the name change was for aesthetic purposes, to divert the attention away from real-life terminal illness). Flooding wasn't even in the equation until much later. When Flooding was in development, a combo deck was built that abused Aflatoxin + Flooding, reaping the benefits with Graveyard + Condor. The opponent would have a field of cells that would multiply (and die immediately), which would, in turn, produce skeletons that would die the following turn. The Condors would grow to astronomical proportions, and there was pretty much nothing your opponent could do to stop it. Because of this, Zanz nerfed Flooding so it doesn't kill neutral creatures.

That's why Malignant Cells aren't killed by Flooding.

Nice to know the history from before February when I started. "Cancer Cell" thank you for that insight into how naming of cards have developed and changed.

Ive been told that several versions ago oracle could give malignant cells as stand alone cards.
Some people might have one.
