Title: Can anyone help me solve my desynch problem?

I am posting here to see if anyone can help me, an unsavvy computer person, be able to pvp, without desynching.  I have played multiple games now with ctrl / shift / I.  There were multiple problem messages that I received for:  readrpvp2.php?id=...

When I played on Kong compared to someone playing here, the messages initially said block.  When I played here, they said fail.  When we both played on Kong, it said fail.  (Of course, those first blocks were before I cleaned my DNS; I haven't recreated it.)

My first two duels were in a tourney against Doctor C, where I played on Kong.  We did not desynch.  Since then, ALL other duels have desynched, some fast, some slower.  I have no idea why I could duel him and not desynch, while I can't accomplish that dueling others.  Of course, I haven't dueled a wide variety of people, but it shouldn't matter too much.

I was told that hopefully cleaning my DNS might help.  It didn't.

The only other suggestion that I have received is to try uploading and playing on Firefox.  That won't be easy for me to do.  It takes me quite a bit of work just to make a home page workable, with me not knowing what I'm doing.

Does anyone have any idea what might help so that I have a reasonable chance of not desynching?

Thanks,

Janice

Real answer: Switching tabs mid-game often leads to desynchs, as Flash cannot handle not being the centre of your attention and will throw a fit if it's not. Beyond that, the servers in EtG are extremely unstable and you just need to hope everything works correctly.

Joke answer that's cleverly disguised as the actual real answer: Play OEtG legacy

Thanks for replying dawn_to_dusk.

Switching tabs isn't the problem on my end, as I don't switch tabs once the game starts.  Of course, I'm not sure about other players....

I know about OpenEtG, and do plan to get into that, even if I wait until the end of the year (depending on how busy I am).  But while I have heard of Oetg Legacy, I have yet to find it.

I had hoped to participate in some duels (maybe TCBOO), but if I'm nearly guaranteed to desynch, I think that I'll skip it.  (Nearly out of time for that one.)  I mostly don't make decks that the AI can play [nearly] as well as I.

Switching tabs even during match search also causes issues; Flash basically freezes when not focused and this desynchronizes it with the server, causing undefined behavior.

Basically, don't remove focus from the game when doing anything related to PvP, otherwise Flash will have problems communicating with the server.

You can access OEtG legacy with a button at the bottom of the main screen after you log in. Editing your deck is with a button at the top, though the UI takes some getting used to.

Oh, wow, I didn't realize that there could be a problem before connecting to the duel.  Unlike when I had Kong chat, it is sometimes hard to know if we're both searching.  I miss Kong chat.  :'(  Maybe I'll have to do some more testing again.

We tried that and found out that some cards act differently there, otherwise it would be viable.  Thanks for all that help Aves.  :)

It is worth noting that changing windows is fine, so feel free to switch between Discord and the game, or by opening the game in another window and using both chat and the game that way

First of all, I heard you wanted to delete your account. That can be done with '/deleteme' in chat. But overall account deletion isn't necessary for trying cards, building a collection is much faster in oetg. CG did a write up for introducing players from original to oetg: https://etg.dek.im/forum/index.php?topic=985 (you can also create decks with cards you don't own & play those against decks through Custom to try them out, but that feature's UI needs a lot of work)

Secondly, re differences, please let me know by listing those here: https://etg.dek.im/forum/index.php?topic=992.msg5038#msg5038
I also rewrote the engine from Javascript to Rust in November (https://www.reddit.com/r/rust/comments/k3jy5g/i_rewrote_10k_lines_of_js_into_rust_over_the_last/) so I've been going through & fixing inevitable regressions that came from that

The #openetg channel on Discord is a good place for questions

After installing Firefox, and making sure that the game was in its own window, and that we didn't chat in-game, I was able to get through one game without desynching (I desynched prior to that).  After I am able to duel more, I will know more.  But I finally stand a chance.  :)

A big thank you to all who have been helping me.  I really appreciate it!   ;D

Regarding OpenEtG, the reason that I wanted to be able to delete my account is because I simply clicked on an element to look around, assuming that I could delete it.  In there I clicked on multiple buttons.  I may have even clicked on some games, clicking one button after another, so I may have spent $$$; no idea.  I just want to know the cards available before I select an Element, so that I choose an Element which I would prefer.  Besides wanting to know before selecting an element, I want to know what cards do before playing as it is difficult to understand while in battle if I don't already know.  I learned that well from the original.

Thank you for that FAQ; I'm sure it will be very helpful, and I will scour over that later.  Now just to find a guide detailing which buttons take you where (some things are not obvious).  (Hopefully this will help with some of that:  https://etg.dek.im/forum/index.php?topic=267.)  Well that, and hopefully there will be a list of, and a guide to, the cards.  (I may not have the time to get into OpenEtG much for a few weeks.)
